Eve (Space Kadets/Art of Beatz/Konspiracy Group)
DJ Name - Eve Email: [email protected] Genre Of Music: abstract/hard drum'n'bass, ambient, chill out, electro, deep/breaky house Affiliations: Art of Beatz Radio - CFRO Co Op Radio Vancouver Space Kadets Collective The Konspiracy Group Website: www.spacekadets.com www.artofbeatz.org How long have you spinning the decks for? Since 1994! What originally hooked you into the DJing scene? I have always loved dancing and partying with friends, so when I got involved in college radio, it seemed the natural transition to the DJ booth. I was taught under the auspices of Atlanta's legendary Housefaerie, who ran the south's only electronic radio show on WRAS. It was through his influence, that I was opened to the ever-expanding array of electronic genres emerging during the early 1990's. In his words, "if you don't understand it, buy it." Thus began, my education. What type of music do you specialise in? My two favourite genres are drum'n'bass and ambient. With d'n'b, I love the intricate rhythms and driving melodic force behind the basslines...and find it one of the most creative to dance to. With ambient, it's all about sound texturing, and the ability to really make something of your own with pre-recorded material. They both represent each end of the spectrum for me, and speak to my dual nature. Most expensive vinyl that you have paid for? - how much was it? $150 (USD) for an original pressing of The Orb's "Roof is on Fire" (Kiss EP on Wau Mr. Modo) What is your most treasured record and why? Unopened vinyl covered copy of UF Orb with artwork - given to me by Lx Paterson, himself! What events have you played at? Too many to list here - over 100, and that's not counting residencies or radio. Check out www.spacekadets.com for DJ Eve in her entirity. What National / International clubnights have youplayed at? Events DJ'ed range from benefit shows (ie: BLAST - Deaf Rave, Atlanta's Dance-a-Thon) to full on raves (ie: Goddess I-IV - all female dj talent, FutureFest, Big Day Out), with tons of intimate gigs with a stylistic variety of headliners (Richard Devine, Faust and Shortee, Dj Spooky, Safari Sound System, Charlotte the Baroness, Team Rollers, etc.). I've played in the states, from Atlanta to San Francisco, and in Canada: Ottawa to Vancouver. Admittedly, the Lotus Lounge in Vancouver is one of my all time favourite sound systems. Ahh, bass! Have you got any DJing horror stories? Suprisingly, not too many. Just some awful sound systems, and bad requests. I once had a guy who was tripped out on something or other, come up and accidently spill his container of bubbles on my decks! Heh. ;-) Are you a resident DJ, if so where? Every Sunday at Subeez Cafe in Vancouver...Cookin' Up Beatz from 8-11pm - nice downtempo, chilled loungey affair. Any other information? In addition to deck wreckin', I perform with Vancouver's Gunshae on oboe, and try to incorporate improvisation into my DJ sets. I love working with other DJ's to tag team, share music, or collaborate...it's a big part of what keeps me going. I also love runnin' 3 or 4 decks. And, I teach Djing in Vancouver at The Rhythm Institute (www.learn2dj.ca). Hit a girl up! |

I LOVE THIS WOMAN!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously. Very inspirational musically and personally. Made me believe in the process again and feel like I am not doing things for naught. She should really be dubbed the "renaissance of d&b" - a resurgeance...........slick, intelligent, innovative and very surprising.
