Soda (twentyHz, C1rca Presents/ Vancouver)
SODA (twentyHz, C1rca Presents/ Vancouver)
DJ Name: DJ Soda Email:[email protected] Contact #: n/a Genre Of Music: Full Spectrum Breakbeat (Downtempo, breaks, hip hop, DnB) Affiliations: twentyHz, C1rca Presents, Boomtown Records Website: www.twentyHz.com / www.c1rcapresents.com How long have you spinning the decks for? Started spinning records at 17, so i'm going on my 10th year. What originally hooked you into the DJing scene? Not sure what made me get into DJing. I know the movie "Juice" had a lot to do with it, but I didn't start spinning till I went to my first partys in the early ninetys.... so I guess the rave scene got me into it. What type of music do you specialise in? Breakbeat. Straight up. Anything with a break is cool with me. Most expensive vinyl that you have paid for? - how much was it? Not sure. Probably like 25 pounds for some old funky breaks that i've been wanting for years. What is your most treasured record and why? Well I just scored Rebel MC's "Tribal Base" which i've been wanting for years. I also just got a classic funky breaks tune that i've been looking for, for 10 years now. It's called "Silver" by Pure Silver. First breaks tune I ever heard that broke down in the middle to a hip hop beat and speeds back up. John E (my fav DJ back in the day from Toronto) used to rinse it all the time. Eric B & Rakim's "Know The Ledge" is one of my most treasured too cause its my favorite Hip Hop tune of all time.... oh and "TROY" by CL Smooth & Pete Rock.... fuck I could go on and on. What events have you played at? Way to many to list. Played all over Canada many times... also down the West Coast of the States, and around Europe. In Vancouver I have thrown many of the top breakbeat events with my partner Kevin "Priceless" Price and our company twentyHz. I've opened for Adam Freeland, Tipper, Atomic Hooligan, Soul Of Man, Lorin Bassnectar, DJ Hyper, Rennie Pilgrem, Fort Knox Five, Scissorkicks, Skool Of Thought, Incredible Melting Man and many more. What National / International clubnights have you played at? National ... again too many to list, but some stand outs include Shambhala, WEMF Festival in Toronto, FOCUS @ The Guvernment in Toronto, System Soundbar in Toronto, Breakfest in Toronto, raves in Saskatoon, Regina, Montreal, Toronto, Edmonton, many a club nights in Whistler and Victoria. As for Internationally, I did a UK/ Europe tour last year where I played at Botchit & Scarpers night "Collision" in Brixton, Super Charged in Brighton, and C21 in Berlin. I have also done radio shows Nationally on Angus Robinson's "Futurized Radio", for D-Monic's "Pure Phunk" show, Art Of Beatz, and Internationally on Ministry Of Sound Radio, Breaks FM, and a radio show in Berlin. Have you got any DJing horror stories? One I can remember is in Whistler in like 99'. I was a resident for JnB Productions Friday night at what was then called TheAlpine Rock. I had the night off that night as GTM and Dabbler were in town to headline the night. I had my records with me though cause there was a big after party I was booked to play. So there I am getting tipsy 2 fisting beers when all of a sudden GTM colapsizes to the floor in mid set and has a seizure on the decks. The promoters didn't know what to do, but didn't want to make a scene out of it, so they got me to grab my reks and continue to keep playing while they dealt with GTM. Here I am mixing and trying to help GTM at the same time. Scary shit... he was ok but man did it freak me out. Are you a resident DJ, if so where? Currently holding residence at Vivid Sessions in the Urban Lounge @ Sonar on Fridays twice a month and once a month in the main room for Vivid Breaks. Also am a rotating resident for Edit Breaks, Mondays @ Voda and am a self appointed rotating resident at Automatic playing DnB (thats right Jay!!!). Any other information? Look out for releases coming soon from myself and Matty Pacific under the moniker Karma Project on my label twentyHz Music. Last edited by twentyHz; Dec 28, 04 at 11:37 PM. |

fyi...
soda's real name is Andrew Wadden, aka Ricardo Sanchez, aka Timone Vandetta.. you may recognize those names from the 97 coke mule bust from columbia. While soda was downing little silicon balls of happy powder, he was dreaming of the big city.
Once across the border he ran into a problem with the feds, thus he couldn't drop the little happy powder bombs for over 2 hours while under investigation. But he made it in safely under the name Andrew Wadden.. so with $20, 1kilo of disco fluff and a big bottle of toothpaste his dream as a dj was on it's way. That's why he drops the bombs when he spins, to remind himself of the days as a coke mule. It's what he likes to do, release the bombs. cheers, Kyle Last edited by Skyles; Mar 10, 05 at 01:25 PM. |
