REVERSE CREW - Vancity's ladies of DNB!!
The women of R E V E R S E are pleased to bring you quality events in Vancouver and around the world. Not only are we a network of talented ladies, but we share our vision with many influential producers, promoters, performers, and supporters of the underground dance community.
As a collective, our aim is to create a unique experience for those who enjoy our music. We incorporate multi media collaborations into our productions, with performance art, visual art, fashion, and a bit of unique flare. From the time we first met as a collective, we could see distinct forces represented in each DJ's personality. Like pieces of a puzzle, 5 elements became apparent. Fire is brought forth by Ang's bursting energy, Water represents the fluid voice of Ill-Esha, Air is the force of Dani B, Earth reflects Eve's sonic diversity, and Spirit is the ever creative nature of NoraDawn. DJ: Ang Genre Of Music: Drum & Bass, House Other Affiliations: Get Down Productions, Proper Clothing Website: Reverse Crew, Proper Clothing With a base in hip hop culture, Ang set off on her own in 2002 to find her musical voice. A self taught DJ, she uses her love of drum'n'bass as a platform for expressing her natural energy for music, and passionate love for the dancefloor. Citing producers, Ed Rush, Optical, High Contrast, and Cause for Concern as major influences, Ang has a unique personality in her DJing, setting her apart from the rest. Hailing out of Vancouver, BC, she combines her b-girl attitude with jungle sounds, to take you on a journey energized with party beats and flavour. Mixing infectious vocal tracks with powerful hip hop remixes, her impressive style and track selection are known to rock crowds all over the Pacific Northwest. She also expands her sound on the decks, with a soulful mix of house. In addition to being a fiery spirit through the turntables, Ang has her own clothing line, Proper. The future holds bright things for this fabulous lady, including producing her own tunes. Watch out for this one! Ang can also be seen producing live art and breakdancing at Reverse events. DJ: Dani B Genre Of Music: Drum & Bass, Hip Hop, House Other Affiliations: Warning, Breakage, Life4Land Website: Reverse Crew Inspired by the sounds of Exodus, a renegade squat party crew with a huge following Dani B became a junglist. Dani B has performed with fire at the Hard Music Show and Trancemission since arriving in Vancouver, but has yet to figure out a way of spinning fire and records simultaneously! DJ: EVE click here DJ: ILL-ESHA click here DJ: NORA DAWN Genre Of Music: Drum & Bass Other Affiliations: Good Residencies: "Good" Sundays @ Vibes Lounge Website: Reverse Crew, Nora Dawn Tribe Creations In 1998, NoraDawn found what she had been looking for, in the sound of drum'n'bass music. Within its flow, were the elements of punk, alternative, electronic, tribal, and melodious voice - all influences throughout her life. The culmination of these diverse styles is evident in NoraDawn's song selection, and she blends them seamlessly into a tapestry of beautiful sounds that defy category. Standing out as one of Vancouver's first few female drum'n'bass DJ's (in addition to Ill-Esha and others), she is a local favourite, who takes the time to be a part of the underground scene. She is an integral element of the community at Vancouver's longest running drum'n'bass night, Automatic, where she played her first gig ever. A self taught DJ, she crafts each set to her audience, and returns their energy back to the dancefloor. New Members!
Vancity y'all best watch out... recently added
CHEYENNE Cheyenne has been a familiar face in Vancouver's club scene for many years, as door person for the Lotus Sound Lounge (home of the legendary 'Automatic' dnb weekly) and as a core supporter of cutting edge dance music. Her passion for music dates back to her early teens, when she was trained in classical dance. Her love of dance led to an early interest in raving, where she discovered the drum'n'bass sound through DJs like Visionary, J-Smooth and Freaky Flow. After further exposure to artists like Shy FX, LTJ Bukem & DJ Rap, Chey was inspired to start building a record collection of her own. Her experience in fashion is reflected in the bright, colorful tones of her music - an impeccible selection of soulful, liquid funk sounds, leaning heavily towards vocal and song-structured tunes. Artist like High Contrast, Logistics, XRS and D.Kay are sure to be featured in her emotive sets, alongside a healthy dose of r'n'b remixes. Although admittedly a beginner on the decks, Cheyenne is no newcomer to drum'n'bass music. MP "COAST TO COAST" MP discovered Jungle in her home city Montreal through Junglist Fridays at the Blue Dog in 2000. From DnB to Ragga-Jungle, from DJ's Stabba to Krinjah, the dancehall queen was drawn in by the complexity of this musical genre and has been exploring its boundaries ever since. In 2001, MP’s started a radio show called Jongleurs d’Ombres, Montreal’s twin to Vancouver’s Shadow Jugglers. At first, MP invited DJ's and producers of all electronic music styles, but quickly focused in on Jungle & Drum'n'Bass. She decided her radio show would work best as a place where junglists gathered to share music and ideas. Once in Vancouver, BC (2003), MP started Shadow Jugglers, along with Bias and later, Jimungle and Mister E. This true junglist princess, brought the radio show to life in a live setting in June 2004, alongside the SJ crew. Hosts of various Jungle-focused radio shows around Vancouver were invited to represent. The next event featuring the SJ Crew took place at the Backstage Lounge’s Artificial Intelligence (MP’s favourite venue at the time). The positive vibe and the excellent music made for a going away party to remember. Now that she’s back in Vancouver, MP is shaking it up again with the SJ radio show, alongside DJ's Bias and Jimungle. You can tune in every Saturday night from 7-9 pm on CiTR 101.9 FM. MP has a lot of projects in mind...so sit back, relax, and be prepared! QUEENSYZE Queensyze has been marked as Canada's leading female drum and bass producer. Her two personalities "Evil Q" and "Electro Q" labels what she is all about. She is an inventor and a re-inventor. Bored with current traditions she invents new ones. She will never be able to be put into a box. This comes as no surprise since she spends all of her time in the studio spending night and day working on arrangements and experimenting with low frequencies from her arsenal of Retro Tech synthesizers. Her creations are now released under Solid Vinyl (UK), Incidental Records (CA), Oscillate Recordings (CA) and her own imprint Tune Inc. Recordings. To evolve with the digital revolution, Queensyze has created her studio to be more mobile. She can now play complete sets without touching a turntable. Building her tracks live, while creating on the spot remixes dropping mashed up classic samples all at the touch of her fingertips. Queensyze is always reinventing her music, forging ahead and never looking back! SOCOOL Emily Sobool aka DJ Socool used to listen to music on her headphones and fantasize about sharing it with others. Sometimes, it involved hijacking radio stations, other times it involved guerilla attacks on coffee shops. but most recently, it has centered on the commandeering of turntables in order to bring the message to the dance floors. With the aid of a couple of superstar DJs (Eve and Soo), Socool has found herself descending into the mad depths of vinyl addiction. In the spring of 2005, Socool developed a research project that attempted to learn about some of the complexities of Vancouver's Drum'n'Bass scene. The research experience was invaluable, both for the learning experience and for the results uncovered: Reverse is at the forefront of Vancouver's musical soundscape, and working within it is definitely the place for an enthusiastic music-fiend to be. It is her resolve to bring a sense of humour and fun to the decks, focusing on leftfield sounds such as the likes of Squarepusher and Photek, but willing to drop ridiculous German house music - you know, if the time is right. KELLY DAINES From the very beginning, it was clear Kelly Daines was born to be a musician. By the time she was two she could spontaneously sing the most intricate scat, which she picked up while listening to performers in San Francisco as a baby. As a small child she constantly wrote songs which she sang in a powerful voice and impressive range, belying her youth. When she was eight, the Vancouver Children's Bach Choir made room for her, after hearing her audition, even though they were full for the season. Kelly has a number of different vocal styles in her repertoire. She was a lead singer for The West Coast Funk Mob, and has performed with such musicians as, DJ Cutcorners, Tyler Lewis, Ground to Air Crew, Ill-esha and various hip-hop artists. She took voice training with Adele Clarke, and performance training with Ray Carol, former singer with old time rock band "The Platters." Rock musician Dee Long employed her talents as a backup singer on his latest CD "Outside". Always a fan of great beats, she studied the art of the djembe while travelling in India, and incorporates both djembe and vocals into her current project, The Metaphysics Collective. Metaphysics (also consisting of Ill-esha and Symmetrik) debuted as a trio opening for LTJ Bukem at Sonar this January and has also appeared at Tokyo Lounge with Reverse, and the Apex Festival. Kelly's commanding stage presence makes her an exciting performer who engages her audience. This multi-cultural, intuitive artist has the power and talent to help put the Vancouver music scene on the map. OZZIUS ATREIDES As the first male member of the Reverse Crew, Ozzius Atreides brings more depth to this already strong and eclectic collaboration of artists. With each project this silver tongued assassin contributes to the ever-growing arsenal of skill brought together under the Reverse banner. Combining poetic verse from antiquity with aggressive hooks from a science fiction psyche, Ozzius Atreides is a Lisan Al Gaib - the Voice from the Outer World. Spawning from a literary background, Ozzius Atreides has striven to apply his knowledge of poetic form to musical concept. Mingling lessons within parables structured in syncopated 4 bar measures, lyrics represent a synergy not normally seen in elements of genres Ozzius has been experimenting with. Though powerful lyrically, Ozzius Atreides has honed a stage presence that must be experienced in order to be understood. Be on the look out for the intellectual Jihad that sparks from the music born in the inner abscess of his spiritual mind... Stay Tuned For Upcoming Events.... Reverse Crew |
