DJ RAP @ sonar
i was kinda drunk, but if i could sum it up in one word it'd have to be "weaksauce". normally have the greatest respect for ph1 and what they do, but rap is simply played out in my opinion. last two times i saw her play drum and bass it was certainly nothing spectacular, and most of the djs in town could boast fresher track selection than her. this time playing some middle of the road bland chugging proggy-breaky-housy stuff. meh. i'm not the best judge of that kind of stuff, so maybe for what she does it's "super-hella-manga-awesome!" but somehow i doubt it.
i'd rather see an up and comer than someone still holding on by their finger tips... |

Whats wrong with you ppl and bashing Rap???
Personaly I have a shit load of respect for what she's done in the past 15 years as a dj, actress, and producer. As for her set last night, she explains that " you wont get booked forever as as a dnb dj since the scene is too underground (always will be)" Since she started playing house she has been given the chance to play much bigger croweds/shows and booked more often. I thought she did well last night, shes full of cerizma/personality keeping the crowed going and played a large variety of house from accross the board. No train wreaks that I recall and she took turnes between some easy cut mixing and some very fine skillful mixing to be fair. Ive seen her 3 times and still love her :) You cant judge a dj on one show or when your drunk... go shut up please! Last edited by Ree Fresh; Feb 19, 05 at 07:29 PM. |

There's definitely alot of people getting by on their cred and not mixing skill, Pete Tong and Goldie the biggest examples- but Rap can flat out mix
If you want to see a cash grab, I can point you in a couple directions, but you'll never find that at Vivid Fridays where our prices have always been far lower then anyone else around town for premium talent while continuing to take risks on acts no one else would have on |

maybe she absolutely killed it this time, i wasn't into it, and i admitted i'm not the best judge, but it just didn't seem that interesting to me. as for her as a producer.....she produced some good tunes about 10 years ago....that's really all you can say as far as i'm concerned, though i haven't heard her house stuff. finally, billing yourself as the "top female drum and bass dj..." sorry, not now, not ever. rip kemistry, big up storm. |
