The Crystal Method @ Sonar
Well seeing as I just got back and it doesn't look like anyone has made a thread for this yet, here goes.
They fucking ROCKED the place! Normally going to Bonar would make me want to stuff my head into a meat grinder, but tonight was fucking crazy. They had the place JUMPING, with the first half of their set comprised mostly of either stuff of theirs that I haven't heard for whatever reason (songs that weren't released on an album? I dunno), or just breaks tracks from other artists, since I'm not too well versed in the genre. Maybe someone else who attended could clear this up for me. About halfway through they started dropping all of the familiar tracks and the vibe built up into what ended up being very enjoyable experience for me. And I didn't even have to step over any e-tard sketchpads occupying the floor, which was a nice change for me. But enough from me, what did everyone else think? |

crystal method dropped some really great tracks throughout the night. i was really impressed with their selection. they kept it high energy and the highlight was definitly when they played song 2 by blur. everyone in the place started jumping, it was awesome.
not sure if they were having problems with equipment or not (i saw one of them look at the tables and make a 'wtf' motion once or twice) but man, they sure did fuck up a lot. i normally don't catch mistakes while mixing and things like that, but i caught them fucking up a few times. they just weren't that impressive in that regard. i think their live set at plaza of nations in 2001 was way better. i wish they had done that at sonar. edit: guys dressed up like flowers and bunnies. haha. how do you ID guys like that? |

I let drunk people get the better of me, as I wasted a good part of my evening trying to figure out how I could hurl a glass at a certain obnoxious party-goer without hitting the turntables. However, I actually did have a good time. Thanks for driving down Ashlee, and thanks to Ashlee's buddies for having xtra tickets =)

Yeah, that guy was sort of a turd. Also I sort of wished they didn't just prop the doors to the bathroom open, it's a little startling to turn around after using the urinal and see 5 or 6 people lining up for the women's bathroom staring at you.

The tracks they dropped were wicked and they looked like they were having fun too. The vibe was great and I was having a blast!
The only thing I regret is that the show ended up at Sonar... I don't like that place one bit. My favourite part was when they played Born Too Slow, then Bound Too Long and then Song 2. So much fun! |

That was a sweeeeeet night. Gotta remember, since TCM are a band, they attract more of a concert crowd so thats why was a bit different
Thanks to everyone that showed up, for that totally diverse crowd. Props to "Tightie Whitie" Price for the electro breakyness, Kyle "don't be playing that" Nordman for the breakbeat and house assault and to The Crystal Method for a full out intense set. if you enjoyed Crystal Method's set you have to check uk Progressive Electronic legends: Hybrid on June 9th @ Plaza. Their dj set sounds very close to what TCM or Kyle played, and their productions might even rival TCM's for range and adventure. They are big time movie score producers and were chosen by Moby to open for him on this entire US tour a a few years ago. Tix only $15 and avail at: Boomtown, Zulu, On Deck or online www.PH1.ca |
