Amon Tobin @ Commodore
got there JUST as he was starting up at around 11:30. place was pretty busy.
crazy crazy sound. he had the 5.1 surround sound going on. no matter where you turned (as long as you were standing in the middle of the dance floor) the sound was just perfect. the bass was so awesome it was constantly tickling my nose. he played a lot of DnB, had the crowd going crazy at some parts, with some triphoppy stuff stuck near the middle of his set. lots of cool stuff i hadn't heard before. my one complaint is that it should've gone longer. for the ammount you paid it would been nice if the show had gone until at least 2am (it ended at 1:30am). props to the Jazz Fest for bringing this guy out. definitly, a cool idea. |

oops started a thread to late.
Yeah this was a sick show. When he played Pendulum - the Masochist the whole commodore went rampant it was cool. another thing we noticed is how pish posh that crowd was. Never have I heard a crowd clap like they were at the US open to drum n bass music. Who claps for djs anyway? |

it was the jazz festival so maybe they had a larger budget. and there was a different speaker set-up then there normally is at commodore, and it sounded different.
but really, i don't actually care if you don't believe it. it was still cool. |

a friend of mine went and apparently amon had something to do with the set up of the sound! he thinks it was worth the effort! |

my review: thanks to really good company, food, drink, and music i enjoyed amon tobin thoroughly, even though it was all final scratch. oh - and the opening duo were weak. |

i've been to shows at the commodore that sound good...
I think it depends on which sound guy is in charge... the crochety old sound dude who's used to mixing for live bands has no idea how to make it sound good for DJ/electronic acts... And I thought the craze/adam f show was because of a faulty mixer or something? |
