If we book someone who isn't as well known, it's a miracle if it's well attended. That's what raves are good for sometime. Because there is multiple rooms offering other talent, people will come regardless and at the same time, check out this "newer name" you're bringing out as well. It exposes Vancouver to new talent to then want to hear/see them again. |

I agree with Synx and Kraig on this one.... Armin's name does sell and sell big indeed and also his track selection. Unfortunantly there are alot of people who will have no idea who Whiteroom, Pulser, LSG, Sophie Sugar, Simplex, Serenade, etc.... is and the list go's on and on. I mean Armin's top track right now "shivers" is based on a remix that someone else did. The original just sounds like garbage to me.. If it weren't for artists such as the one's I've mentioned above Armin probably would not get the success where he is right now. I'm kinda mad that I missed out on Pulser.... Hopfully he comes around again.

If people want to see acts like GTR and Pulser come back, they absolutely need to support.
It was risky putting those two names in a venue the size of Plush. Granted they have contributed significantly to the Trance scene no question BUT... this is the "Vancouver Trance Scene" and the two are entirely different. Those two should have been at a smaller venue - maybe like The Red Room or even Sonar. Plush is a BIG room. Even with 500 peeps it looks empty. That venue (much like The Commodore) needs a BIG name or a bunch of smaller names grouped together to form a qualilty show. I know I'll get chopped down for bringing up DnB, but this is why Azim always shy's away from booking big DnB talent. Dudes like Automatic and other smaller DnB-based promoters take care of that scene well... Offering week night events, with big names for affordable prices. |

I have been practising A LOT and just got 10 new (mainly brand new release) records straight from the UK last week (Juno). CDJ on the way. I also seriously wanted to help promote trance CLUB shows for those who need it most. I have tons of ideas. Including UNION why don't you guys make your own mixes and distribute them with the name UNION on them to get the name out there for your next shows with contact info, etc...? I wanted to help in order to try and bring more awareness to trance (and all electronic) shows, music and the potential CLUB scene in this city to those who can't find it (cuz I didn't for years) but there seems to be elitism, snobbery and selfishness on the part of some involved. My only motive is the love of trance - nothing else. I'm still motivated but a little disheartened. What can ya do? That is all. Last edited by SquiLa; Aug 26, 05 at 01:46 PM. |

First of all, I've been to GTR every single time he has spun here. Excluding NYE rave, none of the times have been remotely packed at all. I keep going because i love his sets, but why is anybody surprised this show was empty , when all the other times were empty as well? Plus he played the week before, and there are two raves the next day. He has new singles out , but none are big, so why the surprise? Ok, you are adding Pulser to the bill, but what has Pulser put out lately? Cloudwalking 2005?????? No disrespect to these djs , but i have no idea why you guys keep booking smaller trance djs at PLush.

i 100% agree with lisa, trance shows lack promotion. why when a hip hop act comes into the city everybody knows about it, but when a trance/house/edm DJ does, a very small percentage of clubgoers is aware of it? i cant remember which rave it was, but solid corp put an ad on the beat about this party. sure its expensive, but promotion is how you draw people to your events and the more people come, the more money you can recover for promo and other costs. it really is that simple, you dont need a PhD to know how to draw a crowd to events. ive been going to these parties for a few years, and i've seen high and low turn outs and they are directly influenced by how much the event was promoted. the sucky thing is that people say it over and over, yet nothing gets done to change that :\ |

I dont think its as easy as doing more promo work
the smaller DJ crowd doesnt really exist in Van People go to raves for the party, not for whos playing, and people who go to AvB/Ferry etc go because they are big names and groupies are a dime a doezen around here. But when somoene brings a smaller DJ like GTR or Pulser, people here just dont care |

its all about educating people about music, the artists and the scene. right now, an average joe calls trance music techno and thinks we all do E for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. right now, it is up to promoters, DJs and music supporters to start educating people around us to help others accept the music, they dont have to like it, but we could raise the awareness and tolerance |

promotion from the producers. In fact, all I seen was a forum post. Pretty lame. I just moved here and I have to say the nightlife in this town is comparable to a small city. I was hoping for a more larger Toronto type scene but I guess this will have to do. PS. Are there any clubs in Vancouver even comparable to the 'guvernment' in Toronto? plz suggest. |
