Aphrodite!!!!
Killer show. Soda and Manos totally warmed up the floor before Aphrodite took over the decks. First track that he layed down blew me away....
Good vibe, good music, friendly people..... While leaving someone Gave me one of the S.O.B flyers and showed firewire and said "dammit see I told them they made a typo on research and they still didn't fix it" Then Jay aka dabbler (which I got his name mixed with jeremy somehow) overheard it and was like "meh don't worry they always do that". Then it was the ride back in the valley... Hit a little bit of fog patches along the way... |

yeah awesome show, hella vibin' - soda and manos were dope - awesome tunes and then aphrodite threw it down BIG TIME with massive breaks and drum n' bass tunes, half of which i've never heard before but liked them right there on the spot. got a lot of people moving on the floor, from start to end of his set - definately gonna remember this one. :D |

sweet show
Ya all the Djs threw down a phenomenal set, great crowd, lots of drinks. Very good night. To top it off I had drink with the man himself after, and Kelly Nadia and I ended up at his hotel for some more drinks. Very cool guy, can't wait for his next show.

i wasn't there...
but i think its wikkid that he's still out and bout playin shows.... the man's been rokkin parties before most of the people on this board were even born!! but ya what are these mega mixes like jay? are they like 2 massive tune already mixed as one ? like the Zinc v.s. UK Apache "Ska Nuttah" thats floatin around on the net? |
|
|||
2 massive tunes mixed together as one (ie Zinc v.s. UK Apache "Ska Nuttah") is a mash-up. if all of the songs are playing little bits or vocals ON TOP of each other it's a mashup.
mixing a bunch of big drum and bass tunes (most likely in a software program), one after the other in a 7-10 minute track, recording it, and then cutting it to dub= a megamix. if the songs go from song to song to song like a mix then it's a megamix. playing ONE or TWO megamixes of your OWN production work in a set is generally considered acceptable. the full cycle guys were even good enough to cut their megamix to vinyl for other djs to use all or part of. playing a SEVEN of them of OTHER people's tunes in a row while bouncing around like you're actually doing something=might as well have just put on a cd. have you ever heard that song that they play at the start of every wedding that takes a whole bunch of swing and big band and 50's rock songs and strings them together for about 12 minutes to get the old folks out and dancing at the start? it's by "jive bunny and the mixmasters". that's a megamix. that's basically what you were all treated to last night. at least until the last 1/2 hour when he started playing his own tunes and tunes/rmx off of his labels. so now you know. that's all i have to say. |

Danm!!!
well that soundz hella bunk!! i wonder why hes doin that? does he really lack the skills to mix his own tunes?? weird i would of thought a seasoned vet would mix his tings proppa Quote:

i'm not hear to defend that, but tonnes of people play bootlegs. And the same arguement can be made about bootlegs, but no one complains when most dj's play tonnes of them. If that were the case, alot of breakbeat and cheesey house dj's would be getting this treatment too
again, not defending it, just saying |

on the other hand, while bootlegs and mashups are one thing, they're generally only one song in length. playing 7 megamixes in a row (apparently so you only actually have to beatmatch 7-8 times in an hour and a half set) comes perilously close to just pressing play on a cd deck and fucking off. i should say that part of this is secondhand, i only caught the last 40 minutes of the show. but think of it like this, when i walked in and was standing at the back of the club, i heard him slamming out wicked tune after wicked tune for about 10 minutes and was thinking "shit, he's tearing it up!" then i went upstairs and watched him mix and realized that all of those mixes i thought he'd just pulled off live were on the same record...... |
