CALIBRE Signature Recordings/SOUL:R UK  Calibre has always delivered a sound that delves below the all too often unsatisfying D&B surface. His ability to bring a warm, natural feel to the digital landscape of D&B opened the door to a new breed of dance floor capable, musically orientated D&B, as confident in its longevity as in its originality. Less was certainly more. Since then Calibre has released for labels such as Marcus Intalex and ST File's Soul:R label, including collaboration work under the Mist:I:Cal moniker with the Manchester duo. Other label contributions have included CIA, 31, Defunked, V Recordings and Critical. Remixes have also been a heavy outlet for Calibre's take on 21st century blues and soul, with commissions from the likes of High Contrast, Badmarsh & Shri, and US R&B up-and-comer Jaheim. Calibre's own vision, Signature Recordings is the home for his own prolific studio output, offering an unprecedented freedom to experiment and release music on his own terms. Signature offers regular singles as well as artist albums, remixes of his own work from fellow boundary pushers such as Omni Trio and Klute and collaborations, including MIST's ST Files. 2004 brought chart topping releases such as 'Feeling Happy' (Signature), 'Mr Maverick / Highlander' (Signature), 'PUR' (Revolve:R), 'Drowning' (Liquid V) and the ABSOLUTELY massive 'Drop It Down (feat. Fats)'. Calibre's project with ST files under the St.Cal moniker saw its first release on Soul:r in September 2004 with 'Red Light / Little Man'. Calibre also scored with two huge mixes of Zinc's 'Flim' for Bingo Beats. 2005 saw Calibre Spend less time djing and more time in the studio finalising his new album, 'Second Sun' the first for Signature. Early tracks such as 'Kiya', 'Is it You?' and 'Second Sun' got well supported across the board from Fabio, Grooverider, Friction, Zinc, Bailey, High Contrast, Flight, Marcus Intalex etc... Calibre's hard work paid out and the result is what can only be described as a phenomenal long player, for many dnb fans, easily the album of the year. With the album release in November, Calibre has given in to the overwhelming demand for dj work and spent the last few months of 2005 touring solidly across the UK, Europe and Japan. Other plans for the first half of 2006 include tours of the USA, Australia and New Zealand and beyond... After that look for Calibre to hit the studio again, finishing up the long awaited MIST:I:CAL LP.  (Digital Soundboy, Dance Rock, Lion Dubs/ Toronto) Visionary is a Toronto based drum & bass production duo featuring veteran deejay Marcus Visionary (ever present through his work as a dj/producer/promoter for the past 14 years) and engineer extraordinaire Dave Whalen a.k.a Nemesis. Having spent 10 years perfecting their craft, Marcus and Dave are now full time studio-headz and this is definitely reflected in the volume of output recently. 2005 has been an exceptional year for the guys so far, with releases on labels such as: 31 Records, Revolve:r, Shout & Hustlin’ Beats and material forthcoming on Digital Soundboy, play:musik, Horizon, Xtinction Agenda, On Point & Nice and Smoothe. Also Marcus celebrates 10 Years of the Prophecy radio show. One of the longest running Drum and Bass radio shows in the world. The Mixologists were originally formed in 1997 by DJ Go, who wanted to bring together a group of like-minded dj’s. Go met Beni G as a guest on Beni’s hip hop radio show “The Boombox”, but it wasn't until 1999 when the official “battle” crew was formed. Go and Beni met up with 2 other members through DJ battles and the new line up consisting of DJ Go, Beni G, Gizroc and Yo-one was created. It was these 4 members that began to enter DJ battles as a group under the Mixologists name. Still relatively unknown in 1999, the team came 3rd in the UK DMC team championships, won the European I.T.F. championship and came runner up in the World I.T.F. Finals in Hawaii. In their first year of battling, the crew had already established themselves as a threat, on a world stage. After further success in 2000 (winning the UK DMC Team championships and placing 3rd in the World), the Mixologists streamlined and DJ Go and Beni G became the only 2 members of the crew. The two went on to successfully defend their UK title in 2001 and come World DMC runner ups, their best accolade to date. AND NOW.... Although from different musical backgrounds (Beni was part of the early rave & jungle scene whilst Go had strong hip hop roots) the two have fused and taken their innovative and eclectic DJ style worldwide to over 20 countries, having played across the UK, throughout Europe as well as Japan, Australia, New Zealand, S.Africa, Canada, Thailand, Singapore, China and USA to name but a few. They have featuring in DJ instructional videos, performed on DVD releases, mixed magazine CD cover mounts and worked/performed with artists such as: Roy Ayres, DJ Craze, Jazzy Jeff, Rodney P & Skitz, Kool Herc, Roots Manuva, London Elektricity, Killa Kela, (who together make up Spitkingdom Sound System) Masta Ace and Mark B & Blade (Beni G was the tour DJ - performing alongside acts such as Eminem, Stereo MC’s, Feeder and Delinquent Habits). As well as attracting sponsorships from companies such as Shure, Vestax, Pioneer, Maharishi, Addict and THTC clothing, the two have performed for multinational company events including Nike who they are also endorsed artists. In July 2003 saw their first compilation album released called Champion Sounds under DMC’s label, which subsequently won an award for best compilation at the Underground Music Awards and subsequently they went on to win in Best DJ category at the 2004 UMA awards. In 6 years since starting battling the Mixologists have already done more than most, but it is in clubs where they really shine and are set to continue to entertain crowds all over the world with the option of hip hop sets, drum & bass sets or both with their own unique flair of turntablism. 2005 see's Beni G begin his record label with Plus One (Scratch Perverts) called "Ahead of the Game" for his own production releases as well as DJ Go's "Torq Records" for drum & bass signings. |
