SUMMER BREAK V

August 19, 2006

HEADLINERS:

(In no particular order)

Way Out West
DJ Set by Jody Wisternoff
Bristol, UK

Jody's biog is deceptive, as he's achieved so much in a short space of time. Selling over 100,000 albums and delivering a Top 40 hit with his band Way Out West would be enough for most people. Yet along side their 3 Albums, countless remixes and production duties on everyone from the astonishingly cool (James Holden, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Orb, Roni Size) to the ridiculous (Natalie Imbruglia) Jody has managed to create music that not only elevates every dance floor but has also been used heavily in film and TV,(The OC, CSI, Grey's). 2004/2005 also saw a world tour on their own and sharing billing with Faithless and festival slots for Radio 1 at Glastonbury, Creamfields Prague, Creamfields UK and Argentina. Jody's sound has been his global meal ticket. But let's rewind a little to before all that happened he'd already won the DMC Mixing championship regional heats at the criminally young age of 15, torn every rave apart in the early 90s as Sub Love with Full Cycle's DJ Die and djed at most clubs Worldwide worth djing at then got the band together by the time he was twenty and on single three tore up the airwaves and the TOTP studio with partner Nick Warren on their big hot "The Gift". Right now, in between Way Out west albums he is producing solo works (first single "Cold Drink, Hot Girl" is coming out on Distinctive, picked up his djing habit again and is off to LA to start scoring tv shows for real.

LANGE
United Kingdom

www.connecteddjs.com

With over one million record sales worldwide, headlining performances at the worlds leading clubs and festivals and a tip from DJ Mag as he hits No. 51 of the worlds DJs in their Top 100 Poll and they predict 'The next trance DJ to go supernova', Lange stands tall as one of only a select handful of artists accredited with defining the trance genre sound as we know it today.

Of course you must understand that when we say 'stands tall' we're being flippant. The pint sized performer 'stands tall' at a mere 5"4 inches yet his eclectic productions and live performances are renowned for packing the punch of a Tyson or an Ali.

The Lange rollercoaster ride began in 1997 signing his first deal with Additive Records in the UK. Always a devoted follower of quality music, Lange set precedence in his productions with an awe inspiring collection of debut releases attracting the attention of industry leaders such as Paul van Dyk, Sasha, Paul Oakenfold, Judge Jules and Ferry Corsten.

Alias work such as SuReal - You Take My Breath Away (No15 UK Chart), Firewall - Sincere and LNG - Inter City along with solo productions including Lange Feat. The Morrighan - Follow Me, Lange Feat. Skye - Drifting Away (No9 UK Chart) and Lange - I Believe, have secured an essential position in the record box of any serious trance DJ of the past decade.

As a remixer Lange regularly tops the demand lists of the most recognised production artists and similar club and chart success has been achieved through remix work for Faithless, Thrillseekers, Pet Shop Boys, Lost Witness and Space Brothers amongst others and most noticeably for DJ Sakin & Friends on the track 'Protect Your Mind', reaching number 4 in the UK Top 40 Chart.

On the international circuit Lange has headlined prestigious festivals including Australia's Summerdayze (alongside Ferry Corsten and Tiesto), Spooky and WEMF in Canada whist an overwhelming club demand has taken him to Australia, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Russia, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland and the USA amongst others.

Whilst continuing work with his own Lange Recordings label, Lange is delighted to have signed to Armin Van Buuren's Armada imprint for some exciting projects due out later this year.

Proved as one the scenes best assets, if you're one of the few who hasn't yet heard Lange in a club, bought his music or danced your Sunday morning through to another DJ providing the Lange soaked soundtrack you can be sure it's only a matter of time before you do!

The Autobots
UK

Tom and Jez, collectively known as nu-skool breaks producers The Autobots, are still reeling from the plaudits, after the successful launch of their new record label Broke. Showcasing their own material and including fresh cuts from co label owner Deep Impact as well as providing a platform for developing acts like The Breakfastaz, Control Z, Screwface and Far Too Loud, the response towards Broke has been overwhelming.
Current projects include a return to breakbeat for the ex-Freestylers MC, Navigator, for the first time since the mammoth "We Rock Hard" LP.

Gleaning regular support from The Plump Djs, Krafty Kuts and Stanton Warriors amongst others, the Label has featured on dozens of Radio stations worldwide, including regular plays on BBC Radio1 (Zane Lowe, Annie Nightingale, etc.) as well as countless plays on internet radio stations.

Abroad, they have played in Japan, Spain (over 20 times in the past 18 months including to 10,000 people at the Esparrago festival) and have completed five successful tours of the of the U.S.A. (the most recent of which was sponsored by Camel) They have also notched up regular appearances at the WMC in Miami, in both 2004 & 2005.

Working alongside a number of industry heavyweights, including American metal band Fear Factory, The Autobots are bridging gaps between genres and they strive to provide a unique energy and quality in both their music production and DJing.

Demolition Man
Toronto, Canada

In one word, the best description of the artist known as Demolition Man or Demo is, versatile. Also known as Wayne Young, he is a singer, songwriter, emcee, engineer, and producer. Demo's drive, love and energy can be felt through his words, power and sound in his musical creations. On the rocky road to being truly recognized and appreciated in the music industry, this hard-working artists', positivity and determination can literally be felt. Music has been Demolition Man's first love for over twenty years and there is no stopping him now.

It was June 1994, that Demo returned to England to find that jungle music was the "in thing" taking the UK by storm. Early 1995 Bikey Dred spoke to Demo, he wanted to remix ‘Pretty Looking Gal’ in a jungle style. Demo was not keen on that, as he felt he had developed as an artist lyrically. He said he would voice a track on the terms that he could decide the producer on the track. Demo then called on his cousin Terry -T, who had now started his own label Knowledge and Wisdom, of which Demo is a part of. Together they came up with a track called “Fire” which became a international hit charted at 33 in the National charts.
In late 1995 Demo met a rasta elder named Solo who took him under his wings. Then in 1998, Demolition Man embarked on a spiritual journey to Africa, the motherland. He was blessed with the opportunity to perform in Sierra Leone, Freetown at a peace concert and in Gambia alongside artists' such as Sweetie Irie, Lorna Asha and Richie Davis. In that year he decided to become a Rasta practicing Rastafari livity. It was at this time where he started to develop as a producer and touring as an artist. Ras Solo was greatly responsible for teaching Demo about production, he taught him to produce tracks on an Atari Cubase. He also taught him the meaning and importance of self discipline and the value of life. Through the ways of Rastafari, Demo's music was moulded into a style of his own.

DJ Dig-Dug is a widely renowned breakbeat DJ/Producer hailing from the Northwestern United States. From the purchase of his first set of turntables in 1995, to his recent performance in Taiwan; Doug has spent the last decade rising to the forefront of the global breakbeat movement.

For over 8 years, DJ Dig-Dug has been a resident DJ for the Northwest's largest electronic music event production company, USC Events (www.uscevents.com).

Known for his incredible track selection and polished technical skills, DJ Dig-Dug has managed to develop an undeniably unique style. While his sets often travel through several different types of breaks (Funky, Progressive, Dark), his underlying themes of warped basslines and intelligent drum loops bring a sense of unity to his signature sound. With impressive beat juggling, cross-fader cutting, and creative (but tasteful) manipulation of the Pioneer DJM-600's onboard effects, DJ Dig-Dug has developed a following based on skills… not hype.

Over the years Doug has further defined his sound by incorporating his collection of rare speed garage records into his DJ sets. The genre is famous for layering time-stretched vocals and fierce basslines over a house-style drum loop. Although they're much harder to find these days, Doug continues to add to his impressive arsenal of speed garage vinyl. By utilizing seamless transitions to combine multiple musical styles, DJ Dig-Dug has separated himself from the rest of the pack once again.

After 10+ years, DJ Dig-Dug continues to turn heads in the music industry with his growing allegiance of fans and countless performances alongside internationally renowned artists. His latest track "Crowd Control" (featuring lyrics by DJ Swamp) is further proof that his extensive technical training and creative ideas set him apart from the rest.

Born in Los Angeles December 1982, Garibaldi showed an interest in art and music from nearly the start, and doodling on practically anything in sight. He also began playing the trumpet in the fourth grade and continued throughout high school, where he attempted to juggle art with his music. Garibaldi gained a new perspective and a motivation that prepared him for challenges to come.
Throughout his senior year in high school, David studied animation with a teacher who prepared a professional work environment for his students. The artist would sometimes spend sixteen-hour days working to finish projects. For his hard work, Garibaldi was featured on local and prime time news programs, and in many publications. A highlight of his high school career was the screening of one of his animated short films at Sacramento's IMAX Theater.
Garibaldi eventually started dabbing in paints, and was asked by a friend to paint live on stage during a hip-hop show. The paintings took on a musical flavor, and David felt he was onto something. He began painting regularly at nightclubs, surrounding himself with music and defining his new style. His resume continues to grow with a performance art show he calls “Rhythm and Hue“.
“Rhythm and Hue” is a unique and high energy show by David Garibaldi. With a brush in each hand, he creates 6 foot tall portraits in less than 6 minutes, of icons, celebrities, sports personalities, and special honorees to carefully selected music. The artist does it all while entertaining, and stunning audiences, from hundreds in a nightclub to millions on TV, and everything in between.
“…I’m an artist and an entertainer first, but I feel like I’m providing an experience for people. Something unique, different, and an event they will never forget…” says Garibaldi. The world agrees in amazement, seeing him and his “Rhythm and Hue” show featured on MTV, NBC, UPN, WB, in addition to worldwide publication. Garibaldi has performed for celebrities, pro athletes, c.e.o.’s and many others who agree that Garibaldi‘s talent is like no other. “.…His ability to entertain, his energy, and the actual finished product (portrait) is incredible. I’ve never seen anything like Rhythm and Hue before” says Linda Mamula, a Garibaldi fan.
Garibaldi currently resides in Sacramento California, but his work is showing up all over the globe in galleries, clothing, advertisement, promotional campaigns, posters and video games. His work is featured in E.A. Sports video game NFL Street (2004), which has sold millions around the world.
What Garibaldi can do with “Rhythm and Hue”, and his fine art, will continue to take this artist to unimaginable heights.
