APEX 2006 "Vision 1" stage review
I usually never start a thread just to review one stage but this is something I felt I needed to express in a topic of its own...
First of, I will start by saying that I had a GREAT time this Apex! And second, I finally realized what a lot of people in this scene like but don't get enough of... and that is the stage that I was mostly looking forward to and which had surpassed all my expectations by a long shot. That stage was Vision 1 (DJ iMPACT's, Miss Marz', & DetN8R's stage)... Starting off with a girl who I never heard live before - the ever so polite Amanda Rude - she threw down some phat house beats that got the stage bumpin' right off the start. Next up was the sexy electro house queen... Miss Marz - with an already hot crowd, she layed down a sick track after another sick track that packed the stage right to its borders. Thanks Maggie for playing Steve Angello's remix of Goldfrapp's "Number 1". Even my brother, who is into bands like Tool and Nine Inch Nails said that Maggie was off the hizzle. Following next was DJ iMPACT - the man whose set I was looking forward to rocking my brains out to for the last few months - filled up the stage beyond all limitations... I couldn't even position myself in the front because of how tightly packed it was. His whole set had me shaking my conciousness away into the thin air as with each track he dropped - I lost a few braincells (and a few pounds). Hard trance and hardstyle is what this scene has been longing for all this time - and iMPACT delivered it like his name says it... with 'IMPACT'. In the words of the wise Ali G - Rob's set got massive RESPEK from me. Right after the man of the night was Dub C - an ex-partner in crime of DJ iMPACT - he knew very well what the crowd needed after the headbanging beats of his previous partner... some uplifting vocal trance. It was the much needed euphoric shot of trance I was thirsty for after almost knocking myself unconcious from the non-stop dancing of iMPACT's set, lol. Thanks Carlos for playing the Phil York remix of Nick Rowland's track "Faith" - I wasn't expecting to hear it and it took me by surprise when the wind of a few thousand watts pushed it through the speakers. Following the emotion-filled set of Dub C was the man who has been known for playing tracks that detonate themselves on the dance floor... that was DetN8R himself. Aljie never ceases me with his massive selection of new and up-to-date tracks and remixes. Big up on the FAST and BANGING hard trance set that the BPM-hungry crowd always wants in the morning... a one last shot at completely destroying their poor legs from a full night of dancing. MAN - what was that remix of the Blade track??? I hurt my elbow dancing to that shit. After I was almost out of energy, the night was still not over, and TraiQ4 stepped up to the platform to show the crowd once again what Vision 1 is all about - and that is hard beats and basslines. His whole set put a "holy shit" type of expression on my face that I couldn't take off while the man was behind the decks. Nice work man! That was when I felt I could no longer stand without losing balance and had to leave... Unforunately I did not get to hear SmokeOne's set - I hope next time I will though! I will let someone else review the rest of the stages but I felt that the Vision 1 stage was what this scene needs more of and decided that I will show all my support for all the hard work and effort they put into making this stage a HUGE success! Respect to the Mnemonic stage as well - phat dnb and breaks all night long and a sound system that made that stage worth checking out more than once... Apex definately made it big this year. A lot of improvements were made this year - it was good to see that the promoters actually care about peoples' needs and requests. A few of the old problems were still present, however, they weren't significant enough to ruin a whole night. :) Shoutouts: Rob (DJ iMPACT) - What can I say man... the types of emotions I experience when I'm around you are indescribable - you are an amazing person and DJ. Maggie (Miss Marz) - SICK, sick set! I will see you at Summer Break! My bro wants to meet you. He has the hots for you (shhh...) I'm gonna get hurt for posting this. Joe (b0ld) - Needs more breakcore... :punch: Dmitri, Naomi, Justin, Terrence, Kyle, Ariel, Jordie, Maria, Candace, Adam, George, Kallum (My Abby Krew) - Awesome seeing everyone last night having a blast - that's what it's all about... having a good time all together. Kelly, Jasmine, Naomi - You ladies are nothing but TROUBLE! Hey Jasmine if you're reading this - please do NOT call me more than 9 times a day, thank you. ;) Ben (Ben Giovanni) - lol, drunken set... all good man. We should get together and spin sometime man. And everone else I saw that night - too many people... you know who you are. ;) I'm out. Peace. - FireWire Last edited by FireWire; Aug 06, 06 at 09:55 PM. |
