Telling a child his dog is dead =(

Last Friday as I was out back in my yard with friends having a martini and cigar we heard a terrible thud that was clearly a car hitting something - moments later we'd discover a young man had hit my neighbor's rotweiller and killed him. After minutes of trying to figure out which neighbor the dog belonged to - it was obivous someone had to tell them, and the dog couldn't just lie in the road.
I knocked and a boy about 10 answered....I broke the news to him and his mom and he ran out to his fallen pet crying while his mom became somewhat hysterical.
It was so sad - fortunatley, the dog didn't suffer, he died on impact - the driver was so shaken up and crying....the dog had escaped from the yard and ran out of 'nowhere'
I can' t imagine how I would feel if it were my pet. I hope at the very least we all learn that dogs find ways over and under fences - so watch them because they don't always make the smartest choices.

I am curious to know if it was the drivers fault. I don't doubt the driver was being careless and probably didn't notice the dog.

But it was very big of you to do that.

It was late, dark, and happened *right* over the crest of a hill, could have been doing 30km/h and wouldn't have had a chance to stop... (although I imagine he was doing at least the limit, 50) Black dog at night over crest of hill.... you do the math.

The driver was pretty shaken up, I can't imagine how he felt.

Another young kid from across the street pointed out the owners house, and although there were at least a dozen people standing around, Jingles was the only one to make a move - big ups.

Me and another neighbor carried the dog off the road and to the owners' property.

Sure will be a moment in that childs life that he will never forget.

RIP Macey-May.

That musta been rough.

a while ago, my dog of 14 yrs got ran over by a truck like that in the dark. The guy that came up to my door to tell me, was none other than this PRICK's dad. I played soccer against this one guy, hated him to death, and it turns out his dad ran over my dog. GRRRRRRRR!

that sucks. at least the dog died instantly. it would have been even worse if it was still alive when the kid saw him. it happened to a friend of mine and his dog was still alive. his uncle was crying after.

that's really classy that you would assume the driver is some sort of irresponsible malicious dog killer. i'm sure they were crying to help cover up the fact that they saw that dog and then sped up when it crossed the road, at a crosswalk no less.

are you sure you drive? because anyone who has ever come close to a dog/cat/squirrel should be able to tell you that you have zero time to react.

this is so tragic. my deepest sympathy to the family. as for u guys who went in a did all of that, how thoughtful and caring.

animals are fast and get really excited around cars i know a few dogs that have just run up to cars. i know my rhotty use to do it too. we had to keep him always on a leash and very close by. he even got out of the backyard sometimes(not often).

to watch all of that must have been hard.
