deplorable customer service

Being someone who has done her fair share of retail and customer service, I know it's a tough job, but seriously, when it comes to the basics it should be easy to do.

Some stores have such consistently bad service I could complain or I could just choose to not go back there.

Here's a list of some of my gripes, feel free to add

-Being totally ignored or given a bad look when walking into a store (hello would help!)

-Feeling like you're interrupting a chat session about how drunk two coworkers are going to get that night when you have a question

-Having store workers gossip about other coworkers, shit talk the company or the boss right in front of you

-Screwing up badly and not getting a simple 'sorry'

-I go to this little breakfast cafe often and there is one waitress who works there who is constantly super stressed out about her job and takes it out on her coworkers (in front of diners!) and on the customers too. I mean, this is the kind of place that serves breakfast to people at 4 in the afternoon, I doubt anyone is in a rush and it's not even that busy. wtf. Once she screamed at me because she couldn't get the debit machine to work.

It's so weird because whenever I go somewhere and actually get service that is ok because someone is just doing what they are supposed to do, I'm absolutely floored and impressed by it. Good service should be a standard but it's becoming rare these days.

^hear hear.

I have to deal with call centers a lot at my job. I've gotten some downright NASTY agents. One girl was so freaking awful. I explained what I needed and she argued with me about it, cutting me off while I patiently tried to explain, raising her voice. I was staying perfectly calm and respectful because I was in front of a client. She actually gave me this big drawn out sigh and said "I guess so." about doing something that is part of her job. Then! She hung up on me! I wrote a letter to the company about that one.

i think the problem is that people get too comfortable in their jobs and in general professionalism isn't as widely expected or enforced anymore.

This one lady at a store I go to every day, sometimes 2 or 3 times, drives me crazy. She will make negative comments about what I'm purchasing, never says hello or thankyou, rolls her eyes if I ask a question. I don't understand how she can still be working there.

desiRAWR is an unknown quantity at this point
Today my boyfriend and I went to a little cafe for breakfast (around noon). It was fairly busy (most of the tables were filled up) but it wasn't a huge place nor did it have the atmosphere of being stressful.

There was a sign at the door that said "please seat yourself", so we did. about 15 minutes later we were still waiting for one of the 2 ladies who were in the front of the cafe to come and give us menus, etc. We left. and had breakfast elsewhere. We'd never tried that place before and never will again. Somehow though, it still doesn't seem as bad as having that type of service (or lack of) at a larger chain restaurant. Partially because I saw the job posting sign on the door on the way out.

But you're right. Service isn't the same anymore...If you want service you can't find anyone to help you out...If you just want to be left alone you have half a dozen people coming up to you asking you if you need any help.
