changing direction of school completely
Has anyone been through this??
I've done almost a year and a half of business and i recently realized that I hate it and i don't want to do it anymore. Basically, I have to start alll over again in january for another 4 years.... and now this current semester feels like a waste of time and money since none of my course are going to be transferable to what i want to do.. just wondered if anyone else has had to deal with this |

this shouldn't be in the punching bag, it should be in the sweet stuff section.
you learned earlier then some that your direction was wrong, be glad your not finished your degree! (positive spin, hope it helped) and if the courses are not transferrable just take a W and relax until jan. |

I know how you feel. In 2004 I started Marketing first year and found out I didnt like it. There was 800 bucks gone and a year of my life.
Now im taking financial advisory and its not really taking me interest either. Unfortunatly my talents are limited. |

I switched 4 times in 4 years trying to figure out what I wanted to do.
I started at UBC with Chemical Engineering -> Electrical Engineering then quit and went to BCIT and took Electrical Tech with Power and Control options got really bored, did lots of co-op and then quit with 1 semester left for graduation. Believe me when I say I wish I didn't walk away to make big $$$ as a contractor and finished my education and got that piece of paper. Tough it out Courtney, find what you want to learn and follow through with it when you are younger. It is much harder to break free to go back to school and finish things a decade later. |

I've heard of it happening to alot of people , i had a buddy go into UBC and to get a diploma and find out she didnt like what she got into , its only natural to think your interested in something then change your mind that is why you should think about what your interested in and then find ways of volunteering for something simular or even talking to someone of that profession to get a better idea :)

Ive done a year and a half to get my certificate in Special Ed. None of those corses count towards a uni transfer (maybe 1-2 in uni, but no garentee)
I learned fast that I really want to be a teacher now. I'm going to have to start all over and do 5 years. Ill agree with Nolan that school is never a waste of time. I personaly think almost everyone can benifet from buisness just a little bit so dont feel that it was a huge watse of money. I dont know if you should keep doing buisness as I feel you should deffinently do what you love to do. If you think you found something that you have a true passion for, then I think you should change. I mean its going to last for your hole carreer/life. |

Oh wow cool you too now! I was hoping to start in Jan, but I JUST missed the deadline this year. Ill deffinently be starting back in Fall 07... Im giving myself 10 years to finish it lol.

Hahahha I missed it too. But I reconsidered anyways, as I wanna have more of my car/stuff paid off before I get back into school. As tuition is expensive, it'd set me back in paying ish off. So fall '07 sounds good to me :)

As for teaching, I believe you can still count all your buisness credits if they work towards a uni transfer. I love the school board for the most part. The majority of ppl in the profession do it for the love and are lots of fun to work with (smart, funny, carring). The only down side are the cut backs, but if you enjoy it like most do... youll survive. |

I hated almost every minute I spent at ubc and ended up getting mediocre grades because I was bored with the majority of the courses I took. My only goal was to graduate as quickly as possible and move onto the next thing. That is probably the only regret I have in my life right now. However, I wouldnt have the job I have now or be able to study the things that I am most interested in without first completing a university degree. i suggest that you take some time and figure out what you do like because you will perform so much better if you enjoy what you do.
Education is an investment in yourself that will pay dividends for the rest of your life, even if it isnt apparent right away. heh, im even thinking of going back to school at night so i can get a chartered accountant designation concurent with a CFA Last edited by SEAN!; Oct 18, 06 at 12:29 AM. |

The Stats courses they make you take in University to get an Arts Degree are a joke, sure its mind numbingly boring but its pretty easy to do well.
