Metabolism of a turtle
Damn you, tiny girls who drink beer and eat french fries all day long. I'm more of a wine and cheese girl - but it's the same thing, calorically speaking!
I have one of the slowest metabolisms on earth, thanks to my thyroid condition. And to substantiate this exaggerated-sounding claim, I took a RMR (resting metabolic rate) test, and found that independent of any exercise, I burn a whopping (sarcasm drips here) 1138 calories per day. So slow that on the little scale of Slow to Fast on the print out, it was rock bottom. No wonder I used to work out 5 days a week and never lost weight, even though I eat healthy non-processed foods! I'm supposed to eat like a fricken bird, apparently. My exercise probably just gives me enough extra calories to eat like a normal person on those days. Blah. So really, if I want to drop 10 pounds, I should work out every day and eat under 1000 calories. That's like two meals a day! And then it's like.. will I be happier being a little plump and enjoying my food.. or skinny, angular, and constantly obsessing over cottage cheese and romaine lettuce? ew. both don't sound too good to me :( Yes, I know, life is unfair. But that's what the Punching Bag is for, isn't it! |

I think life's all about being happy, one shouldn't deny themselves anything unless it was very unhealthy for them. I think it's funny that people starve themselves but whatever, they=they Nice thread!
Cheers ill-esha =D top 100? more like TOP 10 booya |

Nice edit, I think I'll share your original idiotic post with the class
"cry me a fucking river bitch! why dont u do sumthin about it if ur so worried and upset, I hate shit heads like you who do nothing but bitch and complain about how shitty there life is and hope someone will care. well guess what......no one does and no one will. u want my advice....I suggest jumping of the port man. do us all a favor" I don't do nothing about bitch and complain about how shitty my life is. FYI, my life is fucking great, I am lucky enough to make at least part of my living doing what I love, and I have a great boyfriend and friends. This IS the Bitching section, and I am complaining because I have a METABOLIC DISORDER, which means it doesn't really matter shit all if I hit the gym or not. And I do! so go unleash your rage, join a 12 step group or something, and learn not to rant on people who feel like venting in a bitch section. |

Ill-esha,
First off, you look fine. I saw you a couple weekends ago :silly: Secondly, have you tried metabolism boosting pills? I have kinda the same thing you do, slow metabolism, not medical, just by nature. I started taking these pill things to raise your metabolism, between those, eating right, and running 3-4 times a week. Ive been losing weight and toning up. Only downside, is you get heartburn sometimes. |

ive always just done my bodywieght x 12 for how many calories i need to maintain my bodywieght if i lay in bed all day.
1200ish sounds pretty normal for a girl. you can easily get 4meals out 1200cal i get 7 outta 2000 losing 10lbs is not hard lots of people think they eat clean but they really dont. everything starts with ur diet. |

You are incorrect. I care if i am chunky, but i try to let that be the only influence on how i feel.

average female is 1500-2000 calories. well, here's how i eat.. what do you think? low fat cereal (bran flakes, vector, spelt flakes) brown rice (never white except for in sushi) wholewheat bread, if i eat bread at all.. i'm not a big bread person fish tofu chicken maybe twice a month, skinless lots of spinach, broccoli rabe, carrots, all types of veggies yams, squash lots of beans cheese (one of my only weaknesses) avocadoes tomatoes red wine once or twice a week if i snack it tends to be on corn chips, carrots, dried dates, nuts or rye crackers. i DON'T eat/drink fast food, red meat, beer or a lot of baked goods except the occasional low-fat muffin. |

also low-fat shit is no good, its low in fat but still loaded with carbs. not sure what kinda portions you eat but if there 500cal style maybe cut them in half and eat 4 smallers meals instead of 2 that alone will speed up ur metab ALOT. also what do you drink? milk juice pop city girl coffees? if your gona workout do it first thing in the morning on an empty stomache |

^^Tomatoes are bad for you? WHY? I love tomatoes. The rest of that stuff I eat only occasionally
I have been cutting my portions, and that seems to be helping. Eating my dinner in two sessions etc. I don't drink milk, I drink rice milk with my cereal. Never touch pop, coffee maybe twice a month. Usually I just drink water, and occasionally very small (like baby cup) amounts of natural fruit juices, the ones which DONT have sugar in the first five ingredients. Other than fresh produce I do most of my shopping at Capers, Drive Organics and Sweet Cherubim. When I do bake I use low-glycemic substitutes (such as agave nectar) in replacement for sugar and kamut and brown rice flours instead of regular. Can't really get up any earlier, my life just won't take it :( but I usually work out on my lunch hour. I think it is only because I eat and exercise as well as I do (although I haven't been working out 5 days a week for awhile, I did a fitness test and my level was Excellent, the only higher level was Superior which is triathlete level..)... that I am as decent as I am. Most people with thyroid conditions report being up 50-200 pounds from what they were before!! thank God I control it fairly well. Last edited by ill-esha; Dec 05, 06 at 03:38 PM. |

hi, yes, i've been on medication for 12 years. it doesn't magically change your damaged metabolism for a new one.. it just keeps you afloat
medication is the reason i'm not 200 pounds, falling asleep as i walk down the street, losing my hair and my memory, etc. not only that but i had to "divorce" my doctor finally this year after she refused to switch me from the synthroid (which has never really worked on me) to natural thyroid (the oldest prescribed medication). i can't find an MD who understands so i pay up the ass to get natural thyroid from a naturopath. and yes, it helps, i'm dramatically more energetic, but it's not going to stimulate a metabolism that no longer exists. |

how often you eat in a day and how long between meals/snacks can also make a huge difference.
I try to eat six small meals in a day as opposed to three large ones spaced far apart and never wait a long period in between eating. I've been following the zone- which is basically trying to eat things that give you balanced nutrition of 40%carbs/30%protein/30%fats of total calories. I like this because small portions make me feel much more full and energized. I also looove the zone perfect bars because they make an awesome mid morning/mid afternoon snack that gets you out of the slump. anyways, there's lots you can read about it ..I like www.zoneperfect.com as a resource. |

Try metabolism boosting pills. I have been using them and eating 1000 calories a day and I have lost about 17 pounds in the past month and a bit. I dont really exercise that often and I am amazed at how the pounds are dropping. The only thing is I have lost that much and I can't even see the difference, its kind of discouraging. Good luck with your dieting, that would be so frusterating. :)

To be honest you should really consider it (exercise) - it's not healthly to eat that little and take metobolic pills - because if you ever 1.) eat more or 2.) stop taking the pills you're just going to go back to how you were, versus exercise which should help natural increase you metabolism and allow you to not watch your calories as much, and maintain your weight healthily and naturally. |

I think I may have regreted the way I dieted a few years ago as I notice im A LOT weaker than before. I was active, but never technicly exsersied when dieteing over 1.5 years. Although I lost a lot of weight and feel I dieted in a healthy way by avoiding nearly ALL bad foods and still eating lots of protine... I still lost a lot of my stregth :(
