Apocalypto
Alright, I am interesting in ancient civilizations and was semi - excited to see this movie, purely for the good visuals. I wasn't really thrilled about it being a Mel Gibson movie, however was willing to take the chance and see what it was all about.
First I'd like to say that the cinematography was beautiful, visually arresting as Jessica put it, which pretty much sums up how I felt about it. It makes you want to go to South America and see it for yourself. Don't let the beautiful scenary fool you though, it's brutally graphic and for a reason. Thanks Mel Gibson for saying that Christianity saved them from their brutal and savage ways... cheers to you and your controversy, not to mention I am surprised you didn't bring Jews into this. The plot was pretty much non-existent, and relied heavily on the gore and brutality. The movie was not historically accurate, because it it were it would have been about the Azteks, not the Mayans... they were gone long before the White people came to civilize everything. (To edit for discrepency: I was talking about the MIGHTY Mayan civilization, not the people themselves, yes they are still around but so are the Egyptians, but they are not the same as they were back in their ancient civilization) *rolls eyes* Overall, I'd give this a 2/10, without the visuals it would have been worthless. The costumes and beautiful location saved it all. Last edited by thechix0r; Dec 09, 06 at 01:51 PM. |

^^ Don't let the fact fool you that it wasn't the same as the collapsed before white people came
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayan_Civilization That's liek saying don't say that to Egyptians, they are still around. Sure they are still around, but the "ancient" civilization is not. Last edited by thechix0r; Dec 09, 06 at 01:34 PM. |

Or the fact that the costumes and rituals were more so aztec... and so seemed the time line of the story, as it took place near the ocean.

The Mayans in their "Hay day" were long gone before the settlers, I didn't say they didn't exist, but they were no longer mighty and powerful. Last edited by thechix0r; Dec 09, 06 at 01:45 PM. |

No you fools! Don't you see? This fighting, this bickering! It's all part of ol' Crazy Mel's dastardly plot! Can't we all just get along? Lets here it for good ol' peace and harmony, to each his own, and all that.
Shame on you Mel, shame on you.... |
