I think most of the presure comes from the record companies than the actual artist wanting to go mainstream and big. Record companies dont nessesarly look for artist who are talented, but more for artist who could be marketed. So in the end the only way an artist tcan really make it and get a record deal is to sell them selfs out and make them selfs marketable so then record companies will sighn them up.
Unless you wanted to create your own or find an indie lable. But than you dont have the bucks to get the fancy video, fancy cd cover, and fancy advertising... so your mostly relying on word of mouth and touring. Last edited by R Wellbelove; Mar 29, 07 at 11:40 PM. |

I dunno.
I think it's one thing to get big because people like your sound, and it's another thing to try to get big by catering your sound to what people want. I think a lot of bands want to get big but don't because they stay true to the kind of music they want to make...but if the opporunity came about for them to sign with a big label and sell millions of records, they'd take it. |

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that what the Gym Class Heros just did? They used to be with an indie label and just recently got a major deal? |
