Being Categorized as a "RAVER"
pisses me right off!!
Yes, i go to those all nite parties that you call "raves". and yes, i enjoy the music they play at these parties. but i would NEVER call myself a raver.. so why do people call me one? hmm.. i do not dress in KANDY... if anything, i would consider myself a barstar! =D haha I was at Kits Pub last nite (hence the barstar comment) and Darude comes blasting thru the system... so here i am, drunk as hell kicking it to sandstrom. Not knowing that half the people sat down for this song cuz they can't dance to "rave" music, the people seemed to have formed a circle around me. they started to chant "go raver.. go raver". i wasn't sure if i should take that as a compliment becuase i can dance to "rave" music and they can't, or if that was an insult. So i decided to leave the circle for a few more rounds of shots. (hehe) so anyways.. back to the subject here.. my question is: why can't we be ourselves and not be named? why do we use distict terminology for everything? it's like we do things without even knowing that we are doing them!! so in classifying..do we get a better understanding of the people?? or what is the purpse..to "group things together?" what does that do?? segregate.. then again i've contradicted myself... i have proceeded to write a post about being called a raver, then i, myself, used the word "barstar" in this post! i've fallin into the hole.. someone get me out! questions? comments? rants? RAVES? haha.. i'd like to hear them all what do you think? -TiFF- |

maybe people label others cuz they think they know wut they are all about or sumthing..or they are jsut trying to figure other people out??.i dunno..labels just suck~:032: |

oh is that so?
well, the only reason i capitalized the last e in my nick is because i like my name looking symetrical. but i dont' need to explain myself to you. that would just be a waste of my time on my behalf... but for future references, just because i capitalize the e in my nick doesn't not mean i do Extacy. it's kinda funny how come up with these assumptions... becuase it just shows how narrow minded they are. -TiFF- |

look at nicks on loungex, f&k and xtcity... or any other web board... many people capitalize G, K and E's in thier named as an attempt to fit in. assuming that you did is much more likely than assuming you did it to be 'symmetrical'. perhaps you should not be so obilvious to things like this and you may better potray yourself as not a 'raver'. r. |

Eminence... i agree and disagree :)
i no where ya comin frum, but I also think that we put those labels upon ourselves.. i mean really, if ya think about it... the way we dance has been sorta created by "raves" itself... How many people do you see out there @ parties who dress like they would go to work, or dress like they're gonna go out to dinner casually.. or dance like they're at a club?? (sum do though..) I think raving has shaped many of us.. even me.. and I sorta hate it... but.... The way I used to dance I danced because that's how every one danced and I admit to it. But I don't do it juss cuz every one does it now, I do it cuz I've grown to like it and it's satisfying... BUT I think it did originate frum "raves"... i never used to dance that way at school dances.... Lotsa us get classified as ravers becuz many of us dance/dress/ and maybe sumtimes even "act" the same... I think many of us have labeled our own selves by how we present ourselves.... I mean, if candy bracelets weren't really worn @ parties, and instead wooden bracelets were worn, don't u think lotsa kids would be wearing wooden bracelets up to the elbow?? this may not apply to u, but I know it applies to lotsa kids out there.... maybe even including myself. ; ) |

Assumptions are so often made, but that's just the way people are in this world today. Can't let lil' shizz like that get to ya. It sucks that everyone can't just know each other as who they are, instead of labelling them. Once I started partying a lot, everyone at school just knew me as the "hardcore raver". I thought that was SO dumb. People stopped talking to me about everything, 'cept for raves. All I got was questions about raves, if I could hook them up with cheap tickets, if I could get their drugs for them...pissed me off that I couldn't just be Erica.
With your name, I get total assumptions about my name too. Everyone thinks that the E in Azn Sweet E stands of Ecstasy, but it stands for my name, Erica. I had this nickname long before I even knew that raves and E were. But whatever...people can think whatever the hell they want about me. I'm too sick of caring...as long as you are okay with yourself, then whatever. I'm sick of being the insecure person that I am, so all I gotta say is "In the words of Pac...FUCK THE WORLD!!" Yes. Me a tad bit agro lately. :051: |

i decided i wanna escape that raver label..
i'm really sick of people at school asking me "so, like, do you do E and shit?" "do you go to lots of raves and shit?" "do that hand shit" ..its coming in style and it makes me the most cutting edge kid at school cuz i'm known as the raver kid.. so all this week at school i dressed all scrubbed out and i'm gonna start dressing so i wont be noticed at all.. i'd rather sink into the background the be given respect for being a raver i expected, and welcomed being outcasted when i started wearing phat pants and stuff.. i was for awhile, but now everyone is starting to think its cool.. |

yeah my school is pretty much like oxide's school. people come up to me and ask me questions a lot. i don't mind it though. at times it is annoying but whatever. i choose the way i want to dress and i guess there's pros and cons to everything. just my way of seeing things.

Why the fuck would u care if they call u raver....do u lack self confidence to not care what pple catagorize u as....especially when they are incapable of dancing like u can? And secondly if u are a raver why deny it...if u come on these web pages and u go to raves and dance to the music then aren't u a raver...?

raverisation!
In England it was the same.... at school if you listened to hardcore or techno you were a raver. Sounds the same as what you guys are on about... No one at all uses that terminology anymore, Raves and ravers are a thing of the past in the UK.
Its all different terminology... I used to stress about what I was... an old question at school was "are you rave or indie?" like you had to be one or the other. Fuck it, categorisation is just an obvious part of language. People who judge you either way will soon get bored and find another minority or oddity to scapegoat for their inadequecies. The less you get bothered the less they have to judge you on.:030: stay cool |

EminencE
You know what...
Thats a very good point. Some times at school, ppl call me Raver. I don't mind it but its like WTF... Do I call you Rapper or Gangster? I don't get it... It's my choice what I do... Another interesting point... A bunch of my friends were all against raves and shit... They were all like... FUCK RAVES AND ALL RAVERS... Damn E-tards... But one night they went to Spanish and they loved it... HAHAHA Don't say shit about stuff when you haven't even tried it... GRRR! -Kam |
