Raver Classifications

Am I the only one who is sick of all the damn classes in our little scene. I can't understand why people feel the need to fit in to a certain group (ie: kandy kids, junglist....)

I mean isn't the whole purpose of the 'rave' for people to join together as one collective group? The class war stuff wouldn't really bother me as much if there wasn't so much attitude between the groups. I hear junglists getting all pissed about how stupid kandy kids look and what not. I mean who cares? As long as they're having fun does it matter?

I think people should try a litle harder to remember why they fell in love with partying in the first place.... the acceptance, the music, and the friends we've all made. If we can do this I think we will be MUCH better off.

discuss......

Dude weren't we talking about this just the other day?

Parties are full of high school kids Shawn... and what is high school like???

I agree that it's pretty fucking lame but people are always going to have their classes and judge others them deem to be "less cool". It makes them feel better about themselves... right? I think it has a lot too do with the mentality of the masses (group) because no one wants to go against the collective and think for themselves... let alone voice their own opinion/feelings/views on the world/scene around them for fear of being shunned and losing those all too precious "friends" who more likely than not don't even know your full name. I think as you get older though you tend to stop giving a fuck what other people think and find your own personality. Ofcourse some people never grow out of it... which is sad but so are a lot of things in life.

I tend to get along with everyone though... I have friends in every "class" and I see them all as individuals... but that's just me ;)

By dressing or acting a certain way, people can quickly identify you through a cliche. As a cliche, you portray the type of person you want others to think of you as in order for them to be curious enough to get to know you. It's all advertising.

No. The purpose of a rave is to loose yourself in the moment through intoxicating computer music. While I enjoy meeting other people with the same interests as myself at a rave, it's not a primary focus. You can meet and associate with people anywhere at anytime, usually much easier at other places than a rave since you aren't competing against loud music and knackered individuals.

Sadly, some people have fun by mocking others.

People fall in love with raving for a number of reasons, but usually because it fulfills a certain need for them. For some, it's the need of acceptance, even if it is from people on drugs. For others, it's perhaps the need to just let go and have fun for a night. For me, it's still the only place I can enjoy music I like loud as fuck. Once that need is no longer fulfilled at a rave, an individual will loose interest and move on or desperately try to reclaim it by going into excess (which differs from person to person).

By the way, this isn't a flame. You asked for a discussion and I'm making one. A good debate is always invigorating for the mind. :smoke1:

I, for one, am not exhausted by the hierarchy of the rave scene...i think that more people should go and join in.

isnt it interesting how everyone chose to use kand-e kids and junglist as an example? I'd like to see some one use a difrent one.. cause it make it seem like this is the same firggen post some one makes every month. heh.

maybe you should go around again hun and ask ppl why they party.. I bet all of them would give you a diffrent reason.. and yes some are here for the drugs, some are here to be 'cool', some are here for the music, some are here to get laid and so on... raves are totaly looked at diffrent for the past few years.. From what I've seen... things arent the way the use to be.. get use to change my dear.. cause it aint gonna go back to the way it use to be....

discuss......
umm.. yeha :P

i think that cliques and labels are silly :) i do consider myself a candy kid though, not because i want/wanted to fit into a group, but because of my personality. i was all cuddly and into cute things and had a positive attitude before i started raving and i think that it will stick with me for a long time :)

i agree with nathaniel

thats why i've been making fun of them for a little while now.

When i talk to people at parties.. I seem to have a much better discussion with the people that are being themselves and not the people that are dressing in kandy, castro hats... blah blah.

Well Jovi... those are the two common references cuz they are basically the two most predominant 'classes' as it were, right now. If you wanna get picky you can go into sub-classes as well. You got the old-skoolers, barstars(yes they're ravers too), gothkids(they DO exist), promoters, hippies...etc....
I could prolly come up with more but frankly I don't want to think that much. Fact is that every one of these groups has an attitude towards another group/groups.

And finally...sykonee.... the purpose of 'rave' is much more than just losing yourself in computer generated music!!! As much as it is a cliche in the scene, PLUR has a meaning and it used to be a focal point of the party scene. I agree you made some good arguments, but that one my friend is HORRIBLY wrong.

My point wasn't that we should abolish these classes.... everybody is involved in one class or another, myself included. My point is that the intolerance of other groups should disappear. I know what I'm saying is pretty much not going to happen, but in a perfect world that's what i'd like to see. Peace, Love, Unity, Respect.... overused and played out..maybe. Does it still hold meaning despite that fact? Damn right it does.

To quote Rodney King "Can't we all just get along?"

Hunne, I'm just buggin ya... but.. as if you dont show attitude towards other... LOL

but yeha.. I know theres are other lil'stereo types... ugh.. and for some reason we all fall into one.. though we dont mean too.. but its just the way the world works.. and the way the media.. sorta wants it to be.. and think about it.. with out stereo types.. life would sorta be boring.. c'mon think of the movies!!!!:P

anyways.. it would just be great if we all did get along... world peace wut? but think about it.. it would sorta take away from some of the stereo types... like... snobs.. cause if they werent snobs what would they be? if you get what I'm saying.. heh..

its just the way the world works

What makes PLUR an exclusive property to raving? If it's a philosophy of life, it exists with or without raves. Go to a Kenny G or Yanni concert. There's far more PLUR present there than at a rave. The only common ground raves have is the music (and even that's debatable considering just how diverse it's become). Everything else that goes on at a rave can be done in any environment.
