Microsoft Service Pack 1
Microsoft Service Pack 1
Don't even think about installing this latest catastrophe as it could give you a wack load of problems ranging from BSOD's (blue screens of death) to email contact and file loss. From what i've heard no matter whether the OS is legit or pirated you'll run the risk of damaging your system or causing some unwanted problems. Sure they fixed a lot of bugs but they've also included some new spyware and big brother tactics far worst than those already known. *Eula is a huge part of it. If you have a "borrowed" version of XP and you try to run the update via the update page you'll notice that it'll scan your HD and then reveal your ilegal copy secretly to M$. The worst problem I've had recently is problems with java. I used to use icq2go but now that i've recently reinstalled XP the latest version of java is excluded from the microsoft homepage (also internet explorer 6) and is now ONLY available through the service pack 1. I managed to scour the web and find the original msjavx86.exe file but i installed it and it didn't do anything. You must now run a seperate program (java) to use applets and java technology. Not only is icq2go so much slower it's also unbelievably glitchy. My advice is to avoid the service pack altogether. Good luck http://www.cnet.com/software/0-80634...-20039834.html http://www.neuro.wustl.edu/computing/piracy.html |

Werdy makes an extremely valid point... Having been an SE before, the rule of thumb in ANY corporate environment either it be on a server or a desktop, the only time a company would consider migrating to a new OS or installing a SP is if it is in version 2 or 4.
My advice, with hard drives being as cheap as they are today, use a tool like Partition Magic and Drive Image. BEFORE you make any changes to your system, image your drive. WHen you have this spare backup copy, go ahead and install whatever Service Packs/software you want that way you always have that backup to fall back on. What I actually did is created a bootable CD with a clean image - has my OS and only essential apps. This way if I crash, I have my own recovery CD that can get me back up and running in no time. oh well hey, if you always really don't like it that much.. on xp anywayz..
just uninstall the service pack (i think that would work? not totally sure though) or do a system restore. system restores work pretty good (from what i've seen) i still don't like xp though.. =\ |
