Piss for welfare!

To: BC Ministry of Employment and Assistance (MEIA)

Urine Testing.

Like a lot of folks in this Country , I have a job. I work, they pay me.

I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as they see fit.

In order to get that paycheck. I am required to pass a random urine test, which I have no problem with.

What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test.

Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check, because I have to pass one to earn it for them?

Please understand, I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet.

I do, on the other hand, have a problem with helping someone sit on their buttocks, and buy dope and booze with my hard earned money.

Could you imagine how much money the government would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check?

Actually, Canadian law is very much against urine testing in the first place. A lot of companies have to fight for their "right" to drug test employees, and have justify that is is imperative to the safety of others within the organization or the general public that an individual be screened for drugs. (or something along those lines).

Basically, if a company cannot strongly justify that they *need* to drug test, it's a violation of your human rights.

So before demanding everyone have to do urine testing, understand that urine testing is for the safety of everyone, not a requirement for assistance.

On the flip side...wouldn't it be great if you didn't pay taxes that went to welfare, but instead could choose from specific charities that did welfare work, and only donate to those that you agree with in principle?

Some people always need a reason to bitch..

You know what..there are soo many people out there who NEED welfare. People think that if your a single mother (with no child support) who is on welfare, then you should put those kids in daycare and get a job. Even with daycare subsidy..Most people would not be able to do it.

Yes there are people that are fucking the government by being on welfare..but on the other side..there are plenty of people fucking the government (grow ops/fraud/theft - to name a few..) that is also what our taxes are going too.

Taxes suck but they are a part of life. Drug testing someone who is on welfare because they have a mental disability and also happen to be a meth addict is not the answer.

I think it's important that the government do better screening, but not something as drastic as urine testing.

that's exactly why it's difficult for employers to test employees. addiction is considered a disability and you can't discriminate based on a disability unless through undue hardship it's impossible for your company to accommodate them.
