I have dealt with more stupid people over the last week than I thought possible! People who can't do their jobs, people who give you the wrong information and then deny it later, it's been soooooo frustrating. The highlight was being told that my gate in Mexico City was at the opposite end of the airport than where it actually was...oh, and AeroMexico sending my bags to LAX instead of SEA - do they really look THAT similar on a luggage tag?

me too! everything (so far) that should be in the suitcase is there, so that's definitely good news! I was SO paranoid that stuff would have been stolen - there is brand new shit in there with the tags still attached!

This relates to a question that's gone through my mind often over the past few months.

How do some people make it through the day?

Like the person on the bus that misses her stop because she didn't bother to get off her duff and head for the doors in time.

"Nope, not getting up yet, we're not at the stop yet."

"Nope we're at the stop but he hasn't opened the doors. Still not getting out of my seat."

"K most people have got off but I'm still not going to get up because I'm in the middle of an important part of my phone conversation"

"OK, NOW I'll get up, now that we've sat here for 10 seconds or so with the doors open... heading for the doors, and.. what, they're closed? We're leaving the stop??? I'd better say 'back door' in a voice not nearly loud enough for the driver to hear.."

I mean missing your bus stop is a minor thing but scenarios like the one I've mentioned have to be indicative of mental deficiencies that carry over to all aspects of day-to-day life, right?? How do people hold down jobs or just make it through the day if they can't handle exiting a bus????

Don't get me started about things I've seen driving around in Richmond/Vancouver for the last couple of years..

And it's also possible that the sticker could have come off and your bag was sorted to the local belt instead of a connection.

You'd be amazed at the shit that happens to luggage. At least it stayed in the same country. I've offloaded bags at Pearson that were supposed to be in the UK but came out in Toronto.

Not defending shitty service, but stuff happens. Sucks that it had to happen to you though.

Question for you: if they damage my bag do they have to fix/replace it? The strap with the big buckle that attaches to the other strap so I can pull them together is broken off :( I doubt I can do anything about it other that enlist my mom's sewing skills to fix it, but it can't hurt to try.

AeroMexico sucks, but it was apparently actually Mexicana's baggage handlers that put it on the plane to LAX rather than SEA.

There are times where I just stand there observing the ridiculousness that's going on around me and feel like I'm in my own world because I'm surrounded by idiots. it makes me wonder if they just let ANYONE become a baggage handler in Mexico.

it is just as bad in America, where they do no real checks of screeners. All you need is Grade 12 education.

at least in Canada, most screeners have at least BST-1.

be really, really glad they have yet to implement domestic screening in canada. in america, that is the rule rather than the exception.

in two cases, in america, old ladies got screened. one lady was even in a wheelchair.

in another case, a young man got banned from flying because his choice of reading was a novel about a hijacker. even when he changed reading material the next day, the screeners wouldn't let him board because "he had made a fake hijack remark". he never did! he had a book that set off the false alarm.

i predict the same thing could happen in bc sometime soon. i mean, all someone has to do is Google my name and i'd be nailed for dissing American foreign policy - Google "Global Fear and Loathing:
the Hypocrisy of Peacekeeping as War in Eurasia" to find that article which could get me kicked off a plane.

If you check the fine print you'll probably see that they don't cover damage to straps, handles and the like. Things like that are usually the first casualties when bags go through the system.
