Yeah, not much you can do about it. The worst thing you can do is complaint lots directly to him. He lives below you right? A noise complaint from you weighs heavier so I'd keep cool or you could really piss him off. My neighbor smokes too. I feel your pain. Stank ass smokers.

I never noticed smoked until these bans came into place. Ill admit I no longer like it when people smoke in side or have the nerve to hold their cigarette in front of your face. But really... unless someone's bbq is on fire I have no idea how enough smoke from a single cigarette is able to get right into your face after traveling outside through gusty winds unless your holding your head over the railing right above them.
If its bugging you that much, maybe ask your neighbor to smoke on one side and you can sit on the other. |

NO! Silly idea! Keep doing obtuse passive-aggressive retaliation until the tension builds and builds and finally one person's cat is painted pink and the other person's kitchen is being flooded by the other's backed up toilet! That kind of thing fixes this stuff in situation comedies all the time!

Hey fyi smokers don't like being told where not to smoke. This new city bi-law has raised a lot of eyebrows. Look at smokers, they're being segregated. No joke. It's a constant bombardment of anti-smoking propaganda to the point of alienating the wheezy, stank masses. So telling this guy to take his smoke and stand on the other side of his balcony sounds pretty ludicrous. Hey, they should just divide the building into two sections: Smokers wing and Non-smokers wing and make the smokers pay a higher rate because of the damage nicotine causes to walls and rugs. Yep, still not a good idea.

I think it's a bit hyperbolic to state that you have to stay inside all summer because someone occasionally enjoys a cigarette on their balcony and I think the first step towards a solution might involve you looking at things from a realistic perspective. When someone is outside smoking, the average cigarette lasts what? 10 minutes at the very most? What is stopping you from stepping inside for 10 minutes if it bothers you _THAT_ much to grab a glass of water, make a snack, tell fnk you think you're better than everyone in Victoria, play your ocarnia, etc? I find it hard to believe that this dude is outside chainsmoking for hours and hours on end. Life is hard, and it can be unfair because instead of getting people to do what we want, we have to compromise.
I mean, you live in James Bay right? Why not enjoy hours of your time in Beacon Hill park or around the gorgeous city you live in if it's that bothersome? Be warned though, people *might* smoke outdoors in the city too... |
