You probably have dry socket, which is kinda gross. Comes from smoking after removal of the wisdom teeth, that, and sucking...
"Do not spit. Do not suck through a straw - This promotes bleeding and may dislodge the blood clot, resulting in a dry socket. Do not smoke - for at least 12 hours (preferentially, avoid smoking until the site heals completely). Smoking will promote bleeding and interfere with healing; it may also cause dry socket." The internet is your friend and you'd be amazed as to how easy it is to find basic information. http://www.dentalreference.com/html/wisdom_teeth.html |

So it's more of a gum infection caused by your wisdom teeth coming in?? That makes alot more sense then an actual infection of the wisdom teeth.
Either way, wisdom teeth removal isn't fun. Especially all 4.. expensive too. (would've cost me just under $2000 to get all mine done if I hadn't of had 100% dental coverage) Last edited by c.tard; Apr 01, 03 at 07:59 PM. |

My oral surgeon was telling me about it before I got mine done.. doesn't sound fun at all! It's painful, and it makes it take a bit longer to heal than normal. Last edited by c.tard; Apr 01, 03 at 08:03 PM. |

ya i think thats what it is, whatever it is i want it gone....and NOW!!! fuck it hurts. ya im not sure how much mine is gonna cost. i dont have coverage anymore...well 40% or something...but i have to get reimbursed. so i can only afford to have one done right now..the one thats bugging me...and supposedly mines gonna be complicated so its probably gonna be about $250 gggggrrrrrrrrr and ya i havent had it pulled yet. im scared to have it done. cheryl...how bad did it hurt? |

Ya, they can get pretty expensive. My whole surgery came to about $1750 or something. Luckily I've got 100% coverage so I only paid $238 (consultation fee, IV sedation fees, etc not covered by insurance).
The actual removal itself didn't hurt at all. I was only oxygen, laughing gas and valium (through an IV), and my mouth was frozen. What you'll be on all depends. My mom got one done and all they did was freeze her mouth. (Iv sedation is more expensive, G.A is even more expensive.. approx. $200) Afterwards, it didn't hurt bad. I was on painkillers so that numbed everything. I couldn't stick my tongue out, and I was living off soups/jello/pudding/other nonsolids for a week or so. It won't be so bad for you though if you're only having one removed. You'll be able to eat on the other side of your mouth and it won't be nearly as bad (I had all four) The nastiest part of it all was the warm salt water rinse after you eat anything.. for the first two weeks! Sooooo disgusting. It's really not that bad though. You have the t3's for the pain so there isn't much! The lack of food and salt rinse was the worst part of it all! :P |

eeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwww salt rinse.
gross. im not gonna be able to handle that...seriously...it makes me wanna gag right now ya they better not just freeze my mouth, freezing doesnt work for me...at all. i usually get around 8-10 shots of novacane...and i can still feel most everything :( but at least it sounds like its not too bad, im gonna get my dad to make me mashed potatoes hahahaha... i can hardly eat as it is right now... my friend had all four of hers done, i saw her the day after and she looked like jay leno she was so swollen hahahaha |

Well I'm sure you'll figure that all out beforehand.
My mom just had her's frozen for one two, that was covered by the dental plan. I had my mouth frozen, but the IV sedation cost me $60 or something.. G.A costs you approx. $200 but I don't think they'll do that for only one tooth. Remember though, if you do get something other than just a frozen mouth you can't drive home after.. someone has to come pick you up (i'm not sure if you're driving yourself there) That's why I had to schedule mine around my mom works schedule :P I wasn't too swollen, everyone said I looked mad though! h ahaha.. but the anti-inflammatories help. And some ice cubes, in a bag.. with a face cloth or tea towel around it help the swelling too. You also have to make sure there's no food stuck in the hole. Have to keep it clean, and it takes about a month to totally fill in. (Mine was done two weeks ago.. and the holes are getting better now but I still have to check em) |

^^^ this is good to know.
ya i think my dad's gonna drive me there, just in case, its not too bad cause i live right by there, so i could always walk there and get a friend to pick me up...no big deal. i want to get nicely doped up man hahaha i dont wanna feel a thing eewwww a big hole...gross |
|
|||
Well ya, they can't legally let you drive home after that. So they'll keep you there until someone picks you up.
Ya a big hole.. haha the top wisdom teeth weren't as bad as my bottom ones. The bottom ones were impacted (growing sideways) sO i've got big holes.. I could see my jaw bone and everything. Nasty.. |

As for the tooth removal, I had all four taken out at once. My mouth was frozen with as much ultracain as they could safely give. It didn't take too long,.. though they did have to split each of the wisdom teeth in half before removing them (the roots of my teeth corkscrew). I took one t3 after the removal. I think the grand total for the whole thing was just under $400, my medical covered it all. fooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooah! |
