ppl that dont think i understand chinese
HOLY SHATS! i was on the bus after a long pathetic day and i sat in the back of the bus as usual....then 2 hongers walked in. sat down across from me and started talking about me in cantonese. first of all they thought i was filipino.. then they were critiquing how i look and said such comments like: her face is not round enough, her nose is too flat..blah blah blah.. all in cantonese. then they were debating if my hair was naturally dark dark black or if i dyed it. i started to giggle a bit and the guy honger dude found it it was funny how outta no where i started giggling...and told his friend. right after his comment on me giggling... my mom called and i spoke in full cantonese to her...OH THAT WAS FUNNAYYYYYYY. the 2 hongers blushed like hell and got off 2 stops after and kept looking at me. oh it was great.
still...its kinda rude to critique someone outta no where.. you never know what languages ppl can speak. im not mad about it at all.. funny story of my day! =)

i hate that feeling when you know someone is talking about you especially in a different language when they can look right at you and you don't know what they are saying. that's good that you did that...and kinda funny cause they must have felt so stupid! i think it's so rude when people do that Last edited by oFFseT; Apr 18, 03 at 10:45 PM.

i didn't do it on purpose.... it was coincidencly that the only person i speak cantonese to (my mom) called me at the moment.. i wasn't offended at all. it was good laughs.

jeez bev, if i was there i'd pretend to be talking on my cell about them in ENGLISH.. see how they'd like it

That happens to me, I guess because I hang out with whities and I look half, most Asian people think I don't understand Cantonese.
I've never had anyone "badmouth" me in another language, but usually clerks and waitresses are suprised to see that I speak fluent Cantonese.

i dont get why they can speak quietly.. its like, if ur not "whitewashed" you dont know how to speak at a normal level
even when theyre sitting next to each other they have to yell!

I wish I could speak a different language fluently!
My boyfriend is filipino, so going to family dinners and such is quite uncomfortable, because I'll be 1)the only white person there and 2) the only person not understanding what everyone else is saying. Are they saying anything about me??! I won't know for a while. For now though, I'm trying to learn tagalog little by little :). But good on you! That's awesome:) I would have loved to see the look on their faces after they realized you understood every single word they said!
