I doubt he's bein scammed but i dnot see how they're gonna find "cylinder problems" while replacing his radiator. Unless his coolant is vanishing without leaks...

rad was leaking.
and thus overheating.

there is a possible crack in the cylinder gasket. there seems to be smoke and this is common w/ overheating

Good luck cracking a block in BC.
To do that, you woul dneed to repeatadly WAY overheat, and cool down to like -30, then overheat, cool down to -30c, repeat until block cracks. If the block cracked somehow, it can be welded. If its a gasket somewhere inside the engine, you can do it yourself in about a day, or pay a mechanic about 1300$ to gut ur motor. EIther way, if its a gasket, then rebuild the motor at at least replace all the other seals/gaskets in it while you're at it. May as well kill two birds with one stone and extend the life of the engine.

Where is it smoking from?
Thick white smoke from exhaust suggests headgasket is blown. If this is the case you should be getting either oil in your coolant, or coolant in your oil.
