Capp
I find it so fucking ridiculous that the government makes Capp (career and personal planning) necessary for graduation. I have learned absolutely nothing from this class, and it just adds more stress and homework to my already heavy course load!
I'm supposedly learning "life skills" from a moron teacher who has none himself! The class consists of numerous "prevention" talks: dating abuse, drugs, suicide, std's. IF THEY GIVE US ONE MORE FUCKING SUICIDE PREVENTION TALK IM GOING TO GO UP TO THE SPEAKER AND NOTIFY THEM THAT I WILL JUMP OUT THE CLASSROOM WINDOW UNLESS THEY LEAVE. We've had like 3 this year. Oh and the drug prevention lesson forced us to watch an episode of 90210.. that involved Brandon getting into an accident after drinking and driving (WTF!?!??!) I am now forced to do a lengthy project that involves all this useless research about the career that I want to go into... the problem is I'm not 100% sure about what I want to go into, and I think its horrible that they're almost forcing us to make this decision at this point in our lives. I feel like crying... and i'm sorry for all of my unnecessary bitching, but i'm PISSED OFF!

in my capp class i was told that my career choice wasnt realistic, so i gave a peice of my mind then i wasnt allowed to have opinions in the class\be involved in class disscussions so basically i went to the class and did my homework.
i think its useless as well.

hm.. my capp class was great.
we had a few projects, but it was easy stuff. hell you could bullshit all you want and still get marks so i wouldn't consider it hard. the rest of the time we sat around talking, drawing comics about my teacher (which we showed him, he liked and told us to draw more! :P) and watching sexual "hair-ass-ment" videos from the 80's. such a slack class. it was great :P i had it term 4 too, which was even better. easy last term! apparently the government is thinking of getting rid of it though.. hah..

If my capp teacher was somewhat interesting I wouldn't be making such a big fuss... but he's honestly an idiot, I can't stand him. He makes these stupid, tasteless jokes and then laughs at them himself and thinks he's the funniest guy ever. I had him as a teacher for a business computer class I took last year and he asked me and my friend one day if we went to "rave parties" in an attempt to prove to us that he was "hip" or whatever. I told him that we'd go so that we could pop lots and lots of ecstasy...hah

my grade 12 teacher hated capp as much as we did.. he said it was a good idea, but the curriculum was so shitty that it ended up just being a waste of all of our time.. so all we did was watch movies. it was great.
our mark was based on the portfolio we put together: resume, cover letter, reference letters.. shit like that. and we had the whole semester to do it.

Oh true that, capp is such a joke. I took Film Studies as my capp credit course. A waste of time, but I had a rockin teacher and watched Run Lola Run. I recommend that movie btw...
So as a rule of thumb, just keep bullshitin ur way through those assignments gurl

CAPP IS RETARDED AND U NEED IT TO GRADUATE!!
FUCK I HAD TO DO THIS PORTFOLIO SHIT AND IT WAS ANNOYING AS HELL BUT I ENDED UP GETTING AN A ON IT WHICH SHOWZ HOW EASY CAPP IS CUZ I USUALLY FAIL ALL THINHS 2 more weeks and its allllllllll OVAR!!!!

That's weird...my highschool 'capp class' had to meet once every 3 weeks for about 15 minutes...and I swear we didn't do anything. We didn't actually have a class...just a portfolio that we had to have completed by the end of the year.
I remember my bf (who went to Johnston Heights) actually had to sit through a whole term of 2 hours of capp a day...I thought that was soooo strange. But apparently he wasn't the only one. *Jen*

capp is such a waste of time
the lady comes to our class gives us some stupid lecture about sex or drugs and hands out a worksheet then stands at the front of the class and tells us the answers. she said "i dont have time to wait for you guys to actually do the worksheet so its easier if i just tell you the answers"

I think that the idea of CAPP is a good one- they really don't do enough to prepare you for your goals and the 'real world' in school as it is. The problem is, the program is relatively new and most teachers have NO idea how to present this program in an effective and interesting manner..
in time, perhaps?

^Yeah I agree, man were my grade 11 CAPP classes boring! I can honestly say I don't remember a single thing taught in that class.
Fuck I hated CAPP and for some reason the year I graduated they had it so we didnt have to take any classes but we still had to do all the projects like work experience and shit, all if which I completed about 10 minutes before the absolute latest possible hand-in time. The best part was they reinstated grade12 CAPP classes the next year!

Jen ~ that's same way i had it (obviously, same school!) it is weird, but it's not bad. Instead of having the class all year, we have it for 10 weeks of the year, 2 hours a day. then it's over with, never to be done again (unless you fail). so it's not that bad.. just an easy chill class..

capp is crap! our school wasnt realy big on it though but it was totaly lame. i remember one capp class all we did was watch movies. that was it. if you missed one then you lost marks and it wasnt home work so you couldnt catch it up. it was all participation. capp could be usefull but i dont think anyone realy gives a shit about it like the teachers otherwise we may actualy be doing something with our time. it just looks like nobody realy knows what they are supposd to be doing so they just do anything and grade you. but its lame that its a requirement for graduation.

my school is big on capp and i love it. we have a choice of capp leadership and normal capp..most ppl take capp leadership. helped us create really professional resumes and cover letters...and encouraged us to do worth while volunteer things. i took it last year and i started a program called clubhouse4kids.. and it was a group of 6 of us..we went to foster homes around vancouver and hung out with the kids for the day... it was like a big brother/big sister program. felt SO nice to orgranize and be a founder of a program like that. capp helped out my resume a lot.. we even made personal business cards that i sometimes still hand out.
we didn't have the drug/sex talk at all in grade 11/12.. but we had it through gr 8 to10..which i find stupid, cuz i would LOVE to learn more on that topic now... in grade 12...cuz now i dont remember a thing it. (like i even payed attention in grade 8,9 and 10) i'd be pretty facinated if they went in depth with drug help/sex topics right now...too bad so sad. hey guys..easy class...easy marks.

Sure its easy but its a complete waste of time!! The sex talk basically turns into a "why you shouldn't have sex" talk, and the drug talk is pretty much the same. They never lay out the information and let you choose on your own. I hate people that try to impose their beliefs on me, thats probably why I hate capp so much. I think that we need to live our lives and learn from our mistakes and experiences, rather than listen to someone preach about what we should and shouldn't do. This is the same reason I don't believe in organized religion...
