taking my hair for granted

holy shit... before i put my braids in my hair was in PERFECT shape... perfect length, color and texture... put the braids in just for the funness of it... yea i liked it... got reallyyy annoying and itchy so i took it out today..

took my mom and i 3 hours to take the extensions out..then i get a fro... okay..so i shower. it was the grossest sight everrrrrrrrrr... my hair was simply shedding off into the drain..plugged it a few times...went for lots of conditioner and gave up on the shower.

decided to towel dry my hair and start combing through it...knots galore and i swear...5 pounds of hair fell out.. aaaaaaahhh... my hair was already pretty thin...and now i feel like i went through a half treatment of kimo or something. my hair is definately not the same length anymore... i feel bald..and totally insecure.

my hair means the world to me... and now most of it's gone. =(

i think i was allergic to the extensions..parts of my scalp is pinky and yea...such a sad day. may my hair rest in peace on July 4 2003....3:02am.

and to those who think ill just grow it back...do you know how long it will take me?!?!?!?! im never doing anymore huge changes to my hair. NEVERRRR.

im actually really pissed off and sad right now...grrz.

Those little red bumps are normal though. I got them too. I did some research and found out it's just from the hair being pulled so tight, and then some of the hairs come out. I was freaking out about them too.

My hair feels really thin too, but I think it's how it was before I just got used to the thickness. It does feel weird though. And I was freaking since I lost sooooooo much hair. Like crazy amounts. but then again, i've had the extensions in for like four weeks. but still, it was weird.

just go get a nice haircut and i'm sure you'll feel better bev! =)

note: a person losses anywhere from 70 to 100 hairs per day, hair being held in pony tails, buns or braids is unable to fall out naturally so it is very normal for the hair to fall out in clumps after being restrained for a period of time

ps, losing your hair is not the end of the world

aw Hun I know exactly how you feel.
I had the most gorgeous braids in my hair two summers ago, and I had eight packs of extensions put in and it looked wonderful but when I took it out the exact same thing happened to my hair.
I've always had really healthy hair, so suddenly I had clumps of hair falling out and I felt bald, it was definetly the grossest I've ever felt in my life.
But here's the thing, it's probably not as drastic as you think, because you still have to adjust to the weight of your own hair compared to the braids.
Just keep conditioning your hair, and putting in K-Pak or any moisturizing treatment to help it repair.
Your hair should be "normal" again in a month or two depending on how well you take care of it. Just don't put it up too much or do anything that'll put more stress on your roots.

I had really nice, shiny straight black hair when I was younger, and for some reason, my mom thought I should get it permed... It went curly for a day and then dyed into some ugly wave. I had about 7 years worth of hair dying (I've dyed it about 80+ times), and it's starting to somewhat regain its "health" back now... That's the unfortunate thing with most 'cool styles', it butchers your hair afterwards...

I'm sure your mom knows some kinda crazy Chinese remedy or soup to bring back your hair :P My mom at least seems to have some kinda Chinese remedy for everything....

U loose over 100 strands of hair a day, with extentions in there's no where for them to go untill u release them. As c-gal said, those bumps are normal, it's little hair that have been pulled up tighter than the rest and are getting stressed out, it's normal and REALLY hard to avoid. My haid is trashed from extentions, not as much as i thought it would be, but it still is. I don't care tho cause ma "normal" hair is fucking anoying and stupid and "ucky" anyways.

Very shitty for you. I suggest getting a cooling spray for your scalp and use St. Ives "Hair Repair" it is BY FAR the best suff.

My hair is constantly in braids (like, in braids of some sort for the past ten years), and each time i take them out i lose a lot of hair. But it's just the hair that would have fallen out everyday if it wasn't braided.
You're hair is also damaged because it can't really breathe when it's trapped in extensions.

ok. this is the OPPOSITE of what you want to hear...but where did you guys get your braids done? do you have anywhere to suggest? i love having braids done, but don't know anywhere here to do it that'll be good, and not rip a hole in my bank account...

yeah it looks scary when i take out my buns and tons of hair falls out, goes down the drain...but..like what fp said, we do lose alot of hair normally, we just dont notice it as much. your hair WILL grow back.

if you get a good haircut, get your hair healthy again, itll grow ..cheer up...

it is scary, because when something happens, ie even a bad haircut, we get so upset and realize hair is very important to our self esteem ...good luck.

i dont think im everrr gonna get extensions done... ill stick to my normal hair cornrolls and braids.

i suggest to ppl that have thin hair not to put extensions in... you will end up feeling bald like me.

i got my full head done in jamaica and it was ITCHY LIKE HELL. It feels SOOOOOOOO damn good to massage your head after you take them out. I love it when they put beads at the bottom though..

my hair use to be nice and long (well, long for me) it was just getting past my shoulders,and a friend talked me into getting cornrows done, so i did. i looked sick, but when i took them out, my hair was so damaged and fucked up, i had to cut it untill my hair was the same length as it is now (about an inch.)

Ya, I very much fear doing anything to my hair. 2-3 feet of red hair doesnt react well to anything. I dont wanna try dyeing it or doing anything crazy for fear of permanent damage.
