work
I had to work 48 hours last week (monday, tuesday-today) to fill in for the regular who's on vacation.
highlights this week include : - No hot water last Monday and Friday for several suites. Nothing seems to piss people off more than no hot water on a Monday morning. The fact that it happened AGAIN on Friday after it had supposedly been fixed made people absolutely livid. - Management company decides to fuck up again and not notify residents of fire alarm maintenance. Here I am going around with the fire inspection guys at 9:30am, waking people up asking if we can work on their fire protection crap. Some residents not impressed. - Complete water shut off today. No sinks (thank god for Purell), no drinking water, no flushing of toilets. Hot day + toilet of stagnant urine = Plus, some dumbass residents don't bother to read the posted notices on the main doors and elevators that there would be a water shut off today, so they're all taking showers this morning and then the water shuts off with their head still full of shampoo. Quite funny I must add. - Fire alarm went off today. I had 5 minutes to find out if a) It was an ACTUAL emergency and not some dumbass smoking in the hallways again and then b) Notify the VFD if it was a false alarm so they wouldn't send their firetrucks down. The fact that the alarm went off in a building different from the one where all the security code numbers and crap are just added to the fun. Well, it turns out that a sprinkler valve in the mechanical room burst and started gushing water, and that's what set off the alarm (more fun!). Took nearly an hour of frantic running around to sort out. there's more, but these things were probably the most aggravating. Funny how things like these always seem to happen on weeks where the regular guy is on vacation and I'm by myself (see this thread for more details). Well, atleast it's all over now. No more evil till Saturday. to the working class PeAcE |

Yea, this job has its bad points, but it pays decent for a part time job, and it has good hours that fit nicely into my schedule. I could have flipped out so many times, but I decided to just chill out and take an extended 30 minute break. :) That's another good thing about this place, I work by myself half the time, so as long as I don't run into any residents I can do pretty much what I want. |
