Windows XP
oh yah.. what a piece of shit.. Advertised as the easiest to use, most stable and up-to-date Microsoft OS yet.. what a crock. Install a WinModem and watch the RPC errors come up, so I disabled a few and it worked fine then crashed again so I realized there was one I missed. Disabled that one, but somehow a RPC which is supposed to be intended towards the network interface interfears with the registry and is irreversable.. Not to mention the fact that I hate when OS's do all the work for you.. oh and then there's all the back doors, open ports, system error requests, this bloody OS is full of programs that are built in and trying to send info to Microsoft every chance they get, I had to disable so many options. Then there is of course a positive thing, Microsofts anti-pirating division did a good job integrated code into the OS that makes it impossible to update with a new service pack on a faulty CD Key.. cudos on this one.. I hate XP, it doesn't work like it should, it is built for the consumer that is oblivious to the inner workings of a PC and takes control away from the user, which I HATE!! in closing, XP can lick my hairy white ass crack, I'm sticking to Win2k & Linux..

ive never had problems with my xp pro either
and their anti-pirating solution works pretty well.. i mean you'll still be able to pirate and install windows xp but whats the point when you cant patch up the numerous holes in it with windows update as for your winmodem not working.. i think i remember there being an update on windows update which updates certain RPC's... |

Hey Buddy,
For the RPC fix, just in windows xp: Go to Control Panel-->adminstrtive tools (If its in category view and you dont see adminstrative tools on the left side click switch to classic view)-->Services--->Scroll down and look for Remote procedure call (there will be two Remote procedure calls you want the one WITHOUT the word locator), right click on it, go to properties, click the recovery tab, change all 3 options from RESTART the computer to TAKE no action, then click apply shut down of any windows... Then go to www.symantec.com and click on latest threats, then click on the W, look for W.32 Blaster download patch and itll fix it hope that helps peace take it ezz buddy... |

Someguy, maybe you have a crappy modem, driver, or hardware problem. XP is very fast and reliable for me and does a lot of useful things.
Telephone modems - I hate them - I have a cable modem and download at up to 4300 kbps as compared to 43 kbps with a phone modem. Right now I'm running XP Home with 10 apps big and small, surfin net on 2 monitors, no problems. This computer has never crashed in the 5 months I've had it. Although sometimes Internet Explorer or Media Player will crash. Windows 98 was not fun on my old computer but it had some bad hardware. Last edited by tvmann; Oct 31, 03 at 01:20 PM. |

I do alot of audio work, and I find my winXP alot more solid for it than win2k. 2K had some wierd issue with my sound card too, and XP is totally fine with it. (I used to hate the playskool interface as well, but now I find it kinda neat... well after I found out you could change it to a silver scheme..... I mean blue and green.. what the fuck were they thinking??) |
