once again rogers.. you never cease to screw me over...

so my friend gives a nokia phone for free because she's getting a new phone. I'm happy because I get a phone that actually rings.

I find out that there's a $25 charge to switch them. being an unemployed student, I figure this $25 is worth the hassle of actually getting a phone that works decently.

so I go home, play around with this new phone which was working perfectly and then afterwards, realize the keypads have suddenly stopped working. everything else about the phone works (ie, it lights up when it's ringing, the "off" buttom lights up), except the keypads. this means I can't pick up the phone, nor can turn off the phone.

I call rogers who tells me that to fix nokia phones, they'd have to ship it off specifically to nokia (because nokia won't give them parts or anything) and it will take about 2 weeks to get it fix. what the fuck am I paying for a full month of a cellphone bill if I can only have access to it for 2 weeks? I find out from my friend that she bought it about 2 1/2 years ago which means that there's no warrantly. that means it'll probably cost a shitload to fix. so here I am stuck with a shitty phone, $25 short, and if I choose to switch it back to my old phone, that's another $25.

you should be able to get a loaner phone when you send it in for fixing.

note: it's not roger's fault that your phone died. they breakdown. often in a dramatic and instanteous fashion. at least for me.

^you only get a loaner phone if you're phone is under warranty... if it isn't (which it isn't), you'll have to pay for a loaner phone. which I don't plan on doing.

and I know it's not roger's fault that my phone died. I was just mad at the crap I have to go through with them when it does. :(

but anyways.. I called the place and they told me that if I bring it in tomorrow, they may still be able to switch the phone back to my old one without charging me the extra $25.

but it means I'm still out $25.. and if I do end up replacing my friend's phone, there's more $$ involved and perhaps another extra $25 to get it switched back.

*sigh*

i could be wrong, but i remember when i had rogers, a customer service rep mentioned something to me about switching your phones with customer service to avoid the $25 in store charge. i'm not quite sure the details, but it's just a thought. i could be totally wrong here (i haven't had rogers since june)
