And I was saying that a lot of people view those terms as degrading to women, and it's kind of ironic that someone would use sexist terminology to berate someone for using a racist term. Not to mention the fact that they would defend their actions by arguing that 'people say those things all the time'. Hey, I bet people used to say chink all the time too!

naw, I think that whether certain words carry actual racist meanings is dependent on the context in which the word is being used as well as who it is being used by.

There's kind of this unspoken authority that some people have over others, in certain peoples lives that makes using certain words/joking about certain things okay. Not every "Racial term" is used in a racist context or has the intention of coming across as racist. For example, I have friends that DO refer to themselves as "100% chink" or refer to one another as hongers, etc.. Does this mean that they are being racist to themselves, or that they lack pride in their upbringing/culture? no. My friends and I woud most likely joke about one another's ethincities, knowing that it isn't meant to be harmful. In this sense we have a certain unspoken authority as friends to say certain things to one another, that strangers would not.

I'm not defending racial terminology in any way, but I think that those are just some things that are useful things for many people to consider, especially on the internet where sarcasm/humour doesn't always translate very well.
