DJs Over Rated?
Now adays anyone can be a DJ as long as they have enough money to get their hands on turn tables and/or vinyl. I've just noticed that there are more and more people that want to "spin" and are so proud to call themselves DJs. I mean no offence but I don't find being a DJ anymore glorifying at this local level than being a a manager at mcdicks. There are so many "DJs" now that it's hard to differentiate between who has talent and who just "spins" so that they can call themselves a DJ. I realize that there are people that have skill but there an even larger group of people who just like the thought of being DJ _insertrandomnamehere_.

This isn't really anything new man, and just because someone spins records doesn't mean they necessarily have interest in becoming the next Pete Tong. A lot of people spin because it's fun, and because we all need something to spend money on :P

I like buying records and listening to the records, more then cds.
It's kind of feels more magical and meaningful. But anyway... I despise it when dj's have a superiority disorder(YES DISORDER!), and think they know more then you just because you may or may not spin/dj. Let's just flick the title and the ego off a cliff. s t i n a |

For the record this wasn't a recent realization but I was bored and felt like ranbling for a sec. It's not so much about people who do it for *fun*, but it seems like EVERYONE is a dj now...I don't think it takes skill to be a dj it just takes skill to be a good one. Damn all you people with superiority complexes...

DJ Frenzy
Yah it seems like everyone wants to be a DJ.
But I second the statement by Sean that not everyone wants to be the next Pete Tong or Oakenfold or whatever. Spinning records is all about fun and good times. Plus its the only toy in the world a man can buy that will get girls dancing in his living room :) |

DJs overrated
I think people sometimes do overrate what a DJ can do for the music.
Like, what you're buying in a DJ is their track selection. Mixing is very important so the music doesnt stop and so it doesnt sound like shit. Some DJs can actively mix very well so they can remix the songs live. But in the end.. You're still just spinning someone else's music. |

there is a reason for the trend.
Right now turntables are outselling musical instruments in japan. Not just cuz it's a trend but it's the digital evolution with all the new styles of music being produced on computers the turntables allow you a different side of composing,Instead of just creating music your creating a set of music that you put together.

Ideally that's what it is. mixing two records together to make something new. but honestly, how many djs actually do that? I sure haven't seen that many that i would say are creating something new out of 2 records. It IS a trend. face it. |
