looking for a job

I've handed out so many resumes over the past 2 months and still can't find a job!! I have a casual job as a waitress, but one or possibly 2 shifts a week just doesnt cut it. When I talk to employers they are always saying "We are looking for someone with experience." How is a person supposed to get experience if no one will hire them!?!?!? argh ...What are your thoughts on this????

Try a website like this. They have lots of different job postings and ones that you don't need experience for. But they will in turn give you the experience you are looking for.

Apply even if you don't have some of their requirements. Some places will make exceptions, especially if you impress them in an interview.

Exactly.

So give your resume even if it says they require someone who is "experienced" or has some qualifications which you don't have. You'd be surprised how many employers do actually want people with no experience, yet have a great attitude. Never hurts to try :)

what kind of job are you looking for?

IMO, it doesn't really matter how MANY resumes you hand out... if you're not going the extra mile to sell yourself as a potential employee... Find a few stores/companies that you might be willing to work for.. do some research, speak to the manager (who's name you should ask for beforehand.. ie.. call in), act confident and make an impression.. You're competing against various others who apply daily who may or may not have more experience than you so first impressions are important. If you really want a particular job, you have to go that extra mile.

Don't just hand out piles of resumes everywhere, that tends not to work and you just waste time. Find places that are hiring, through friends, classifieds or the job bank.

I decided to get a second job today, two hours of selective resume placing and bam. Already got it.
