Guess what the new minimum wage is going to be?
I just heard today that the Liberals are passing a bill to drop minimum wage to $6/hour, starting mid november!!!!
:snyx: :snyx: :snyx: :snyx: :snyx: Your wage will automatically increase to the $7.60 or so after 500 hours of work at a job. This move is in the hopes of creating more jobs for young people, or something like that. fuck. Why the hell is it that the only bills that acutally get passed are the ones that suck a fat hairy knob???? |

Actually, that may be the idea behind it. and francis.. even though min wage is lowering to $6 an hour, I think its still going to be just as good (if not better) than min wage in most other provinces. in Nova Scotia, for example, min wage is around $5/hour. |

Wage Increase / Decrease
Yeah..
The Libs have lowered the training wage for the first 500 hours of work to $6.00, and raised the standard minimum wage to $8.00. Before you get all worked up about employers ditching staff after their 500 hours are up, remember: As an employer, after you've worked 500 hours (thats over three months) you know what you're doing. Now you're worth $8.00 to them. As an employee, if you are fired or terminated after 90 days of employment they also have to pay you severance, minimum of two weeks at the average amount of hours you received per week. As an employer, this will increse the "loyalty" of the workforce. Hiring young people / students really sucks for employers because they just quit or dont show up to work. This is why it's sometimes hard for employers to hire young people, because they are unreliable. This will work against that. Of course this doesnt apply to all young people. As an employer, this now gives you incentive to put people to work in training. The reduced rate is more affordable to pay someone who has no clue what they are doing than the higher $8.00. Your hopes are that they will be able to learn, and once they do, you're going to have to pay them what they're worth. As an employee, this will encourage employers to fire crappy employees who dont do a good job and hire new ones to replace them that might. Its actually a pretty good thing. They've put some regs in place to catch repeat offenders who repeatedly fire workers on hour 499 too. |
