I Agree this could be a bad decision on the owners part. Brian Burke did a good job in putting this team together. Also he would have been a big help into getting Bertuzzi reinstated into the NHL. I bet he will make another NHL team very happy in the near future.

Definately.....he can put a winning team together....on a low budget in comparison to the other elite teams in the nhl. |

the canuck's ownership is like a cranky girlfriend.
it's like they have no clue how to solve a problem. if something doesn't work for them, they throw it out the window and start fresh. we've seen this happen too many times, with players, coaches, and gm's... look what happened when they 86'ed pat quinn... it took us almost 10 years to get back up to par. |

also from a fiscal perspective, the canucks are balling out of control, especially in consideration of how they were doing a few years back...theis is surely a foolish move. Last edited by SEAN!; May 04, 04 at 05:19 AM. |

I kinda half expected this to h appen as i said to a few people. Bob is right managment for the canucks is like a girlfriend. They get jeolous easily.
Basically h ere is what i think it boils down to. Brian burke rebuilds team from semi scratch. Keeping a few key players like naslund, ohlund, and brings a whole core of players together including trevor linden. Team goes from making half full buildings, to 86 ot 87 sellouts and such not bringing in money instead of losing money. canucks make the playoff's 4 years in a row. Mcammon is jealous of burke's achievments. During the McAmon era we had Mike Keenan as Coach along with tom renney for a lil while. We also had the Messier era which did us really no good. We didn't ever get close to making the playoff's. I think Stan Mcammon is just an over jealous bastard who never really did like burke to begin with and this was the perfect opertunity to kick him out |

We need a goalie more along the lines of Luongo, Khabibulan, Belfour even Turko though he sucked in the first round this year |

its obvious what happened. ownership didn't want to pony up to bert's new contract, burke convinced them, and put his ass on the line. getting money for ruchinsky + sanderson probably factored in too.
didn't deliver, someone has to go. it's not crawford, he has a contract. burke is the obvious whipping boy. canucks need a change, and sometimes you have to get rid of good people just to shake things up. i think burke is top5 gms no question, but when a system obviously isn't working heads have to roll. he did us well, i hope we can replace him with someone as competent. |

actually.. cloutier was just directed at Gbizzle...

Personally I think Burke did an excellent job - even though we haven't had much playoff success we have been slowly improving until this year since we went from:
- not making the playoffs to - almost making them to - making them but out in 4 straight (to Colorado, who went on to win the Cup) to - out again in 1st round, 4-2 games (to Detroit, who went on to win the Cup) to - out in 2nd round after 7 games (OK, we should'a had this, but at least its an improvement) to - out in 1st round to Calgary (who just beat Detroit in round 2) All the while going from a team that was hemmoraging money to one of the most profitable in the league. Consider that some teams have dirt cheap payrolls, haven't made the playoffs, and are still likely losing money. Consider that some teams have payrolls far in excess of ours, and still don't make it to Round One, let alone beyond. Still, rawb makes a good point in that sometimes change in an of itself is needed to reinvigorate an team. Hopefully we get someone who take what we have and improve upon it, and not undo all the work that has brought this team to where it is. As for Hot Karl, what's the worst that could happen? I think the pre-Burke days, where we weren't even good enough to lose in Round One despite a bloated payroll, answers that question. |
