GROUP projects...

I don't know why even in post-secondary they still assign these stupid things called group work. I think they're stupid and pointless and very inconvenient. I don't understand the point of these things.

sometimes, you are stuck with really shitty people who's effort won't amount to positive results. Some people are total slackers and will only invest their energies in trying to seem like they're making a contribution when in fact they are not, leaving you to do the majority of the work... Some people make honest efforst to do a good job but they just suck, and you don't want your grade to reflect how much they suck so you are inclined to take on most of the work. (thankfully these such cases do not reflect my situation now with my group members)

It's a burden when in between all your conflicting scheudles involving extra curricular activities, other courses, and work, you need to find some way to meet up or contact one another...Most people come from entirely different cities making getting together really awkward and difficult.

Why do schools still impose such stupid ideas on us like GROUP WORK!? There are too many problems involving group work that I don't see why they even bother to do such things, other than for convenience.. I don't need to make friends with school people, and I don't need to learn to interact with other people.

YEESH.

Because group projects are a way to collectively put together multiple peoples ideas into one assignment. Plus, it's less for the teacher to mark.

I hate them to Yoko.

ya, group work sucks! there is always the slacker who does barely anything and then gets the same mark the hard working ones do. but you don't wanna tell the prof because you don't wanna be a rat or a teachers pet.

i'd rather write a paper or something instead.

I can't stand group projects either, but they're supposed to get you ready for real work situations.

A lot are in careers that require them to work on projects with interdisciplinary teams.

It bites.

Prissypants will become famous soon enough
I did a group project for a theory class one year. There were 4 of us. All but one of us worked really hard on the paper and the presentation. The other girl didn't do jack. When it was time for the presentation she said she forgot her notes...I knew that she had done nothing and was totally unprepared so I said: "It's ok, I'll cover for you. I brought my notes." Half way through the presentation I finished my section and instead of leaving it at that I just said and now (girl's name) will present her section of the topic...Needless to say she had nothing and was left standing in front of the class looking like an idiot...She got a zero while the rest of the people in the group got an A...Serves her right.

In highschool I ALWAYS got stuck with the shitty group of slackers, and I was a straight A student, so I was always pissed off about group projects.

This one time, in grade nine, we had a French project assigned, and I got stuck with these two guys that were best friends and SOOOOO effing lazy...so I did the WHOLE project myself, got 100%, and they got a zero and STILL had to do the project on their own, for NO marks! that was sweet

After a year of group projects and failing 2 important courses because of it....
At the beginning of every semeseter at UNBC, i would go up to my professor and write a contract that I was not to be involved in any assignments requiring group activities. I would do extracurricular assignments with my assignments to make up for it. The fact they expect you to synchronize the lives of at leat 5 students between the ages of 18 - 40 years old, expect them to write an entire research paper and rehearse for a presentation all within an average 4 week period... is a complete and utter joke.

Profs always say "It's supposed to prepare you for the working world..."
Makes sense, but it's a pain in everyone's ass.
Every group project I did in the past, ended up with me in a full fledge yelling match with the superior "uber-geek" of the group.... usually the one with no hobbies or extra-curricular activities, giving them more than enough time to do all the work themselves... then still have plenty of time to bitch to the Prof about how lazy the rest of us group members were. *gah*

Dude, i feel for ya.
