effin college!@$!$!%!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm pissed off.
I went to see an advisor at cap college last week because I knew I probably had to make some grade 12 stuff up to be able to get into a univeristy transfer program..(which i so didn't want to do) so i explained this..and the woman told me that If I just wait until january when I'm 19 and write a letter to the department explaining why I want to take the courses that Im going for and that way I can get in withought having to redo grade 12 shit...so because she's a counsellor,I believed her..Then today I get a phone call from the admissions office saying I can't get in because my grade 12 average isn't high enough...I tell the woman that the counsellor told me that I would still be able to get in if I waited until i'm 19 but she refuses to listen and says I must have been misinformed...so now i'm fucking mad because one of these bitches were lying and there is no way in hell I want to redo grade 12 courses. GRR. |

I know that at many university and colleges, people who don't have the necessary requirements to enter into an institution can apply as a "mature" student. I found the capilano college admissions page right away and found a link:
http://www.capcollege.bc.ca/prospect...x.xhtml#mature You should try asking again, or read over the admissions page if you already haven't. In highschool and a year afterwards, I had a habit of looking for shortcut ways to get to where I wanted to be.. now I realize that if you really want something, there really isn't an "easy" way and in post-secondary you just have to learn to deal with it. Also, people aren't as accomodating/helpful in university as they were in highschool. Highschool counsellors literally followed you aorund making sure you graduate, but once you're outta there.. you're completely on your own. If you need help, you need to demand it. Perhaps there was a mistake.. you should do some more research and call again. If you intend on going to university eventually anyway... why not just take night/adult school and upgrade your marks and get accepted straight away to university? Unless it's a cost thing.... |

Courtney, that SHOULD be correct, I think the second counsellor doesn't know what she's talking about.
My aunt never graduated because she didn't have her math 11, but she registered as an adult (or mature) student and did the transfer program w/out having to make up her grade 11 math........she's a teacher now, so I don't think you have anything to worry about. However, if counsellor #2 is indeed correct, I'M TOTALLY FUCKED, TOO! dammit I don't want to make up my grade 12 classes seeing as the reason I didn't take them was that they were soooooooo effing boring! |

highschool counsellors in my experience are almost never correct, most of them dont know what they are talking about, and are essentially useless especially on issuses regarding university acceptance and future career possibilities. |

It's taking an alternate route. Think of it like traffic - the majority of people sit in traffic, and wait their turn. But I take side roads and short cuts to get there. We all end up in the same place, but go about it differently. |
