Granville Clubs, Caprice
In the process of chasing tail, I was reeled into going to Caprice this last weekend. I was ashamed to be a part of the human race when I saw the shit-show Granville is on a Saturday night. In the space of 15 minutes (that's all it took for me to leave that gong-show), I saw 2 fights, a car peel out - obviously to show us all how cool he was, 2 people puking in the street or alley, more sluts than I care to imagine, and more chauches than I thought existed. I saw Le Chateau clad club-heads flicking cigarettes at homeless people. I saw valley-girls arguing about what color of lip shade worked best with their loin-cloths. I saw burbanites, who must have crossed 3 bridges to get into Vancouver, break beer bottles on the concrete. And I saw cops chasing people around like school-yard monitors.
As a witness to all this, I figured that any piece of ass that wanted to party in this scene wasn't worth it, and I'd be damned if I was going to wait in line with the dregs of society. Thank god I got into parties as opposed to clubs. Yay for the quazi-underground - I'd rather see a 14 year old girl done up on E than roid-monkeys dressed in their sunday best walk the streets of downtown like they own it. |

The funny thing is, the management of clubs like the plaza club and caprice does a pretty good job of keeping the real scum far away from their clubs (haven't you noticed? nobody has been shot up at either club.)
Try going to a club where they're not as strict with who they let in. But yuh, the granville strip on a friday/saturday night is like fucking circus. It's redick. |

I have mixed opnions about Granville St. I agree that the way the entire strip is run right now it creates the above situations. If Granville was run more like a similar style strip in Montreal you'd see a difference. Generally what you ahve described is what you touched on....it's a highschool full of immaturity and mis conceptions about not only what is cool but how to fit in. 9 times out of 10 that fights been started over such issues of "whatchu lookin at" or "did you just bump into me". Yes I remember those days IN GRADE 10. Granville is a trap for anyone wanting to "look" cool and or feel like they are doing the "cool" thing on a Fri/Sat night. We need a 4 story building with different styles on each floor and fully controlled enviroment where bar service is monitored and people do a better job of monitoring themselves and the people around them.
