after his lugns collapsed and they got him breathing again.....a doctor came into his room with a nurse and the lights were off...the doctor tried to stick a needle into his arm and verbally complained about not being able to find a vein...while the lights were off...then the nurse suggested that he turn the lgihts on and the doctor said "oh thats a good idea"
like wtf... |

I don't know the details and I'm totally just speculating..
but it doesn't sound like the doctor did anything negligent. atelectasis (which is the collapse of the alveoli) is what I THINK the term used to describe what happened to your uncle, is a pretty common postoperative complication for those who have gone through general anesthesia. and maybe the doctor was trying to find a new vein to get a blood sample? although I am surprised that the doctor poked your uncle without even telling him he was going to do this or his reason... that's pretty poor practice. if you're really curious about what was going on, why don't you just ask the doctor? on second thoughts, I find many doctors to be arrogant jerks... ask his nurse instead :) --Joanne :P |

complications happen with surgery, when i went in to get my tonsils removed they tell you everything that can go wrong, or at least it feels like it. and i remember that one, my brothers lungs collapsed when he was a baby so it stuck a little.
even in routine surgery, things can go wrong. my dad went through routine tumor removal surgery, and to no ones fault, got an infection and had to go in for non-routine surgery to get rid of it. about the lights being off thing, are you sure he wasnt imagining things? both times i have come out of anesthetic i've been completely out of it, repeated myself talking, tried to get out of bed, and utterly confused about what was going on. its pretty easy to think things are happening when they are not. when ever your body is filled with substance it is not normally filled with, or someone is cutting something out of your throat, shit can happen. they ripped my lips when i got mine removed. and they didnt cauderize my wounds = more pain, more blood. but i have less scar tissue then the average bear, apparently because of it. back to my point, they warn you before you go under for any type of surgery of all the risks, they cant be held responsible. and your uncle could have been dillusional during his lungs collapsing situation. in any matter, glad to hear he'll be ok. |
