ya, you only get 2 with Extreme package.
Check out: http://www.shaw.ca/en-ca/ProductsSer...essPackage.htm Thats their business package, 8 dynamic IP's can be accounted for, or 1 Static. I'd go with the dynamic if you're a heavy ftp'er. :p |

In order to get a second IP address, you need a second MAC address, ip's are assigned to you via the MAC address, this is why when you install a new network card: your IP changes. |

According to the tech. support at my work - it's unlikely you would use your bandwidth by your downloading alone, it's usually the uploading from you that causes the high usage.
When we see someone with high usage - we ask them to turn off file sharing so no one can upload from them. |

what I do..
is wait till the end of the month then go apeshit with downloads over 5-10 days. Then when I'm over capped, the next month goes over, and resets me back to 0. And I dont get an email. :D you can also check your bandwidth usage on the shaw website I do believe, come to think of it, W. |

Okay here we go. As a dvdr downloader I will explain this very easy and simply.
First off Shaw HAS bandwidth limitations and you should be aware of them since you signed a contract agreeing to those bandwidth limitations. Secondly 'Unlimited internet use' is true, but it doesnt mean UNLIMITED bandwidth, it just means you can stay connected 24.7 and use the internet as much as you want to browse but as soon as you start pumping out or receiving a lot of bandwidth then it starts to go down hill. On Shaw I used to download about 300-400gb a month, between 0day mp3 albums/vcds/dvdrs, until they started bitching at me for abusing their servers and slowing down the network around my neighbourhood. I ignored them and continued to keep doing so, until they phoned me after 3 months of this and suspended my account for a whole month, thats when I made the switch to Telus. So basically, dont exceed your bandwidth limitatations or switch to Telus adsl because they have bandwidth limitations but dont do anything if you exceed them, BUT ive heard they are starting to monitor your useage and will be enforcing their policy a lot more. Checking out primus.ca ;) |

and yes you have 2 IP's, and to find out your other IP
click Start click Run type 'ipconfig /release' (without the ' ' of course) type 'ipconfig /renew' (again without the ' ') check where it says IP and see if its different, if it isnt repeat again and keep repeating those steps until it shows a new one. Sometimes you have to do it like 10 times. |

He usually calls first and talks to you though. When people give him a hard time and refuse to limit their usage he shuts them off for a week at first. After that, if they continue to give trouble they can be disconnected permanently. If you 'agree' to their terms though chances are they won't look at your account again for another 6 to 8 months and when they call you can just 'agree' to the terms again. |

They will cut you off!
Shaw cut me off of my service a month or so ago. Gave them a call, they said that the limit is 20g of bandwith either way, I was just letting my machine run in the day to get all the files I could from bit torrents so I ended up somewhere around 60g, they didn't like that, but you just tell them what they want to hear and they hook it back up...

OK... the people that said that I got nailed for uploading were right.
They shut off my modem until I called them and they said I was doing 20Gb down and 40Gb up each of the last 2 months. That makes sense since I left my search engine on overnight and I'm sure a lot of people leeched off my archives. I guess I'll have to monitor my bandwidth now. :( |

When I was with delta cable when high speed internet was just comming out they had a 2gb download limit. I went over by about 8 gigs and they tried charging me 5 dollars for every gb I went over.
If you just talk to them and say, "oh I left kazza on and went out of the house" they tend not to care. I never had a lecture, but I did lecture the guys who called me about how a 2gb download limit was just plain stupid. |
