office etiquette 101: handwashing
Now, I work in an office that holds about 300 people. That's a lot of people. The majority of the people in the office have partitions, so that it's more of an 'open office plan' meaning that when one person gets sick, it's really easy for that to get ugly.
Now one thing that is a no brainer for 1. preventing oneself from getting sick and 2. preventing others from catching what you've got is HAND WASHING. What bothers me is that when I'm in the washrooms here, I often see ladies just going in and thinking 'washing your hands' means splashing them with water for about 4 seconds. No soap, nothing. There's even a fucking poster beside the sinks in the washroom to show HOW to properly and thoroughly wash one's hands. C-hrist. That is gross and it's inconsiderate. I don't get how people can do that. /end rant. |

anyway, i agree, i see people not wash their hands all this time and it so disgusting.. i cant stand not washing my hands, i feel dirty if i dont... i cant understand how other people dont wash their hands |

that being said, i always use my anti bacterial hand soap. |

which can actually be detrimental to your bacteria killing wants...because after a bit, the bacteria, (like with antibiotics) grow immune to the chemicals in teh soap that kill them.. they learn how to work around it... and then you are just fooling yourself, by thinking ur all good with ur antibacterial soap.. when really, you are not JUST as vulnerable, but still very vulnerable anyway.

office etiquitte 102:
if you're working in an office filled with 100+ people who have to share desks...please do not leave you're dirty dishes or rotting food on your desk. im sure you don't want to come back to that....so why would you think someone else would want to sit near it all day?! |

If anyone takes a trip to the states, I highly reccomend going to bath and body works and picking up some of their antibacterial moisturizing hand gel, it sanitizes, but it's the only kind of sanitizer I've used that doesn't completely dry out my hands....they come in yummy smells too, that stick around.

hand sanitizer squirt gun! and really how long does it take to wash your hands? 45 seconds? and it's polite too. nobody is going to laugh at you casue you washed your hand but they'll sure as hell stay away from you if you didn't.

K, people that don't wash thier hand period are gross. ew.
Whats worse... is if they don't wash thier hands THEN go and touch the door handle after they have. yuck yuck yuck. Basically defeats the purose of washing your hands. |

handwashing is the most effective and cheapest way of preventing the spread of infection. not just splashing water, but the actual friction is needed to remove dirt and transient microorganisms.
anyone who believes antimicrobials/antiseptic wipes/gels are better than PROPER handwashing is wrong. in fact, in hospitals, the big bottle pumps of antiseptics will clearly have in writing that these gels are not to be replaced with proper handwashing. Quote:

this calls for a memo to employees...
Inter-Office Memorandum
To: All Underlings From: The Boss Subject: Washroom Protocol It hass come to my attention that certain personnel have been using the corporate washroom and not cleaning up properly. Ass off today the following procedures arse in effect: (1) After a "number one" or "number two" business transaction (ass applicable) all employees are to insure that at a minimum of one "courtesy flush" is performed. Those who are nervous about touching the plumbing fixtures are hereby authorize to use the foot to operate the lever. (2) somebody else add something here That is all. |

"anyone who believes antimicrobials/antiseptic anyone who believes antimicrobials/antiseptic wipes/gels are better than PROPER handwashing is wrong" key word. surgeons WASH THEIR HANDS (vigorously and longer too). they don't just slather on a wipe or gel and go. --Joanne :P |

^ no only that, but the everyone will have left over bacteria on their hands even after proper handwashing with soap; however, surgeons can't have any at all.
medical asepsis = keep your hands pointing downwards after washing. surgical asepsis= keep your hands pointing upwards and allow the residual water to flow towards to elbows. in a surgery, if you so much as brush up against the bacteria free surgical field, ,everything comes to a screetching halt until they can set things up again. |

oh yeah, no all surgeons wash their hands with betadine. in fact, i'm not sure i've ever seen this done during any of the operations i've stood in on (4 or them).
and in handwashing, the thing that gets ride of the bacteria is the friction that occurs during the procedure, not the soap. <--- learned this the hard way on an exam =( |
