Pay cheques after Tax's
So I recieved my second pay check for the month of Augest... I was pretty happy at first after seeing a surprise raise and it turned out bigger than usual. However I still breively look it over when I notice I was taxed OVER $600 (not including cpp, uic, union dues etc) !!!
Holly shitters... so now I know why ppl vote Liberal over NDP. What really bums me out is im not in school anymore, dont have kids, or anything else I can think of that would help me cliam it back!?! Anyone know of any good tactics or ways I would be able to claim some of it back? Last edited by Ree Fresh; Sep 02, 05 at 09:28 PM. |

^ Well thats the other thing I was wondering too. I have a small second job that counts me as 'self employed'. So far ive been recieving cheques with no tax's taken off and fear ill end up paying more tax's when it comes to the end of the year tax's.
However I want to know what and how I can write things off as a part of my business. Example I understand you can write off any transit/gass etc, but do I need to keep my recipts for that or do I bull shit on my tax forms :P |

I think thats kind of what happend to me this time. They messed up on my July pay and owed me a huge amount and said they would reinburse it on my August pay cheque. Therefore I think it deffinently added on and put me into the next tax braket taking even more off me then they should :( Although I hope the numbers work out better when it comes to my yearly income and the goverment will end up oweing me money instead :p |

It's straight up teasing putting two amounts on your pay cheque...Its like, here's what you made, and here's what you're gunna get.....I swear its just like Eva Longoria about to take her bra off and saying "Whatchya lookin at??!!"

I lost 40% of my treeplanting wages to taxes, it was pretty hurt. Come income tax though, i'll be looking at 2-3k back.
Anything you use for work are deductables. Anything school related is tax deductable. Pay a bit of cash and go see an accountant, they'll let you know what you can write off and the best way to maximize your tax return. Good luck. |

^Thats totaly bullocks 40%... however how did you manage to claim 2-3k back?
I do use my car, gas, computer, and other suplies for my self employed job... but I mean how much of that can I claim? Does this mean I can claim every fill up I use :D |

Most things that you can "write off" are not worth that much, after everything is said and done A.)Providing receipts of everything you buy, B.)Proving it is a direct corrolation to your business C.) 17% of gross you get back from what you are claiming for (and that's on the high end)......Of course if you have been making rather large purchases then yes, it would be worth it, once again you have to have ALL the documentation to go with it.

I spent nearly $1000 outfitting myself, pretty muched lived in a tent for 3 months.
I was able to write off my Level 3 first aid course as a job expense, another $800 25$/day camp cost x 61 working days. - work expense +65$/day for every time i stayed in a hotel (around 4-5 times/month) -work expense 150$ greyhound ticket there - work expense We also got payed at the end of each contract, which were around 20 days each. So we got bumped up into a way higher tax bracket. Oh ya, and remote living expense kicks in which works out to something like $6-9/day (in my favour) for living in the middle of fucking nowhere. Then there's school. After deductions, all said and done I got taxed at a 20+k bracket when I should only have been around 13k. |
