Why is it that a lot of people consider it ok to be racist, sexist, immoral, nasty, apathetic, WHATEVER over the internet?

Anytime a topic is posted that involves something like a death or a tragedy people think it's ok to crack jokes about the situations people are in. Is it just me or do some subjects warrant a little tact and repsect no matter which medium they're presented to you in?

Just a little peeve of mine..... curious as to anyone else's thoughts.

people who use a medium as an excuse fail to realize that a situation where they feel free to say anything is probably more truer to their feelings than thier day-to-day actions.

What about when that anonymity really isn't there? I know a lot of people personally who tend to say things that if said face-to-face would garner them a lot of dirty looks and disrespect.

I don't know, it just seems to me that some things are just not meant to be joked about regardless of where they're displayed/talked about.
