'telus world of science'
Um, if you're going to rename SCIENCE WORLD don't rename it from something simple and catchy to something that is more of a mouthful to say, not clever, and obviously whoring your company brand.
Seriously, it's infuriating, HOW COULD THEY RENAME SCIENCEWORLD |

Didn't they originally rename it the 'TELUSPHERE'
As for whoring their company.... are you really surprised? It's common nowadays for a big company to buy a building and rename it. Look at Seahwaks Stadium in Seattle, it's now Qwest Field. Renamed after Qwest bought it. Every big building has some big company owner or sponsorship it seems! GM Place, Staples Centre, Compaq Centre..... I agree it's SUPER LAME but it's just another way for these co.'s to advertise. :( |

Yes, I work for a larger canadian telecom organization than telus that owns a helluva lot of shit across the country, i understand why
my point was not why, my point was why would you rename it to something less catchy, not cool at all and a mouthful to say? shitty way to brand yourself. |

If it weren't for them "whoring" themselves out, Science World would not be around anymore.. They don't make enough money on admission/shop sales alone to operate (they want to keep prices low to make it accessible to as many children/families as possible), so they have to rely on corporate sponsorship. I think They have a 10 year contract with Telus, or something like that. Although I agree the name Telusphere is a little lame, I'd say renaming the building would be better than having Telus all over the inside.

a) It's interchangable with the original name.. they know nobody's going to be calling it by it's new full name, so why not something that actually contains the original name. b) You COULD make the name cooler sounding (like the "Telus Lab" or something), but that would open the door to ambiguity, and people might not necessarily be able to figure out what the purpose of the place is. (not to mention that changing the name completely would result in loss of mind share) While you're right, Science World sounds better and is ideally what the place should be called, the reality is that there's a lot of money in the marketing. It's too lucrative for either side of the deal to be going away any time soon. Just look on the bright side, at least they finally updated everything :P Last edited by Richard_Pyra; Sep 18, 05 at 05:17 AM. |

seriously now, you can legally rename me "myles user of telus" for 9 million.. I'll even ware a shirt! still this can't be SO shocking, it's the corporate gogo world around us. I for one am all for it. I say let them have their ad!
how many people do you really think will use it when making reference to their children (isn't that is the point of it all).. "okay little jimmy, were going to the Telus world of science Saturday". not many in my opinion. most likely it will be known a 'world of science' vs. 'science world' whoooopy. |
