i should not be annoyed because some of them are trying to get their lives back on track? no one ever said they shouldn't be doing the job. it's similiar to when a jehovah's witness comes knocking on my door, or when a telemarketer calls me and tries to sell me something; i treat the person politely and with respect, but the act is annoying. i understand why they do it, but it's annoying. no prejudice, no hate, just annoyance, and it's justified.

This statement is almost correct. I should be more tolerant of comments born of ignorance, but I WILL NOT be tolerant of comments that come from the same well as oppression, predjudice, public mockery of peoples economic situation and they ways(legal/socially accepted) means of survival.

I admit the most effective course of action is through specific tolerance, education and information, but its high time we expose those who bread misinformation, however subtle or benign. Id rather mince words now, then have to have to resort to less effective and ultimately damaging means later.

If you are insinuating that to fight against any sense of social or political oppression i have to be squeeky clean myself, i disagree. Hey now guys... I understand that that must be a bit annoying to deal with on an ongoing basis. However, Like Tim (and others) said, they are just doing their job. And also, atleast 3 people in this thread spoke of having the same experience on their way to work (I know there was more, I grew tired of skimming thru the arguing to count)... Try and count how many people you recognize on your route to work that are also on their commute. Sure you see the same paper distributers every day, but they see you and hundred of other commuters every day too. Even if they do recognize you, I don't think they can remember who does and doesnt like a paper. What's the harm in asking, bc one day you just might say yes.
