also, it's a bad idea to get in on the first run, because of bugs and stuff like that. some of the first run xboxes had to be recalled about 9 months ago because the power cord got messed up and COULD burn your shit down. my buddy's first run xbox is messed, sometimes it stays on after you turn it off, the jack for the power cord is all toasted.

i'm also a firm believe in playing a few games for the system before you commit that much money to it. and if you wait a bit (maybe ps3) then you can make a much better choice. trust me, as a gamer if one of the systems starts to be head and shoulders above the other one, you're gonna want the other one. and you might feel silly if in 9 months he buys a ps3.
