Merry Retail Christmas
Just got something to vent here...dont mind me..
Working in retail during the x-mas shopping season is horrible. I absolutely hate it. 1) Christmas music sucks. Ten christmas songs played on rotation all day sucks more. 2)Customers. There are way more of them, clogging up the aisles like the cholesterol in someone's arteries. (my workplace.... :/ ) 3)The nice/polite/ hell, even tolerable customers are few and far between during the x-mas shopping season. 4) Although this doesnt happen at all retail stores; being short staffed on top of everything else is fucking bullshit... VERY STRESSFULL !!! |

Tell me about it, I work in auto insurance...our claims volume tends to peak at this time of year. And well...every customer we see will always be upset and frustrated because, of course, most times they've been in an accident. It just seems to be worse around christmas...
CUSTOMER :smash: ME |

I don't think there's anything else that can lower your opinion of people more than working in the service industry.
It's truly incredible how completely daft most people are! Sometimes ya just gotta gawk at them, open-mouthed, wondering how they've managed to live this long. Yup. Yup. The "Holiday" season brings the winners outta the woodwork. Literally. Frosty (feelin' the pain) |

Sounds like you guys work in the wrong industry for your personality types!
I, for one, absolutely LOVE Christmastime in retail. This is my 6th Christmas season and I think it's great. My absolute favourite is when the grandparents come in with a list of items from their grandkids and ask us to help pick them out, etc. Yes, there are the rude, ignorant customers, but they're always there...and as far as I'm concerned, as long as one person each day appreciates my help then I've done my job! |

^ha ha ha. for the most part, ya.... I am not in the right industry at all... Thats why i recently got my G.E.D. and am planning on taking some college courses very soon to change this. Iam not fit to be a stockboy/sales associate, retail worker bee for much longer. It's starting to get REALLLY old , really fast.
But don't get me wrong; It feels really nice when i can help out the nice, respectful and appreciative people who shop at Michaels. In all honesty it really brightens my day sometimes! The sad thing is, it seems like the ratio of bad xmas shoppers to good people is something like 3:1 .... with the intense ammount of customers that are coming into our store right now, that is a hell of alot of bad people to deal with... My District Manager was telling me that there are plenty of great customers around, it's just that we tend to only remember the bad ones. I think she has a pretty good point. But I feel for you and know that for many of us who work in customer service/sales,it's hard to be as perky and cheery about the holidays as galaxie because I know that the holiday season DOES get stressful for most people and the stress of it all is felt throughout the entire company at all levels. It's overall quite a busy and stressful time for anyone this time of season, and it helps when you work in a strong and well-trained team.. and for that reason I'm super excited to train my seasonal hires next week. |
