It's always the people who are furthest outta the city that never tip. So true.. A friend of mine worked at Domino's, and they only paid him $5.50 an hour! (they can legally do this because their drivers are 'contractors', not employees) Subtract gas costs, and you're basically getting the majority of your income on tips. I've been told that most other pizza places work the same way too.. Ever since then, I've always made sure to tip the pizza dude.

No. Fucking. Way.

I work, I don't get comission, I don't get goddamn tips. If you're a bitch, and you treat me like shit, you get NO TIP. No excuses. If you're rude, no tip. I deduct from the tip according to how crappy your service is.

On the other hand, if your service is good, and you are (most importantly) friendly and willing to answer questions etc etc.... you will get a massive tip that is completely disproportionate to the meal.

Why should I give someone extra cash just because they choose to work an 8 dollar an hour job that CAN pay you fantastically? I do customer service, sure I get paid alright, but I still have to be friendly, efficient, and willing to help.

It's a priveledge, NOT a right.

I just don't see why it should be a luxury tax. If this is the case we should also be tipping those poor grocery store workers who pack our bags. Oh yeah don't forget about tipping your bus driver too. What about that poor student at subway making your sadwiches, tip them too. How bout that poor apprentice who is working out in the pooring rain in the winter time cleaning tools for the journeyman just so we can have a nice roof over our head? The list goes on and on.

I don't think I've ever ran into a situation where I didn't think a tip was deserved so I always tend to leave about 15%

As for bartenders, most of them if given a good tip will treat you really well the next time you come up. It tends to make my night that much more enjoyable, especially when they start remembering what your drinking.

Uhhh.. that point is completely invalid.

when you look at delivery, bartending etc when you pay for your drink or pizza you aren't paying the person serving you, you are paying for the product. when you get a roof built etc, you ARE paying the person doing the work so you obviously wouldn't tip. the tipping industry types get paid BASE wages (When I delivered pizzas I actually made 0$ per hour, then $2.50 per deliv. but anyhow.. ) so tipping is how they get paid.

What are you talking about jordan hahah
People that work at subway/fast food make pretty much the same amount as those waitress's/waiters.. I would have loved to get tips when I was in that buisness, we worked our asses off to serve a bunch of rude people and we didnt get any tips.

meh. Gettin paid like 0$ per hour, puttin wear on your car, using gas, etc to serve somebody .. that deserves a tip.

Gettin paid decent hourly to throw together a sandwhich doesn't really merrit a tip. IMO kelly :)

yeah your point about the pizza place is true, thats pretty shitty... But people in fast food really do work their asses off and have ASSHOLE bosses. They are never really sitting still wether its cleaning, serving, taking orders, making the food .. So glad all I have to do now is sit on a computer and surf the net all day for a good amount of money :D

I don't understand your logic, when it comes down to it your always paying for the product. The price of labour should be built into what I pay for that product, that is the responsibilty of the employer or the manufacturer of the item. It is the employees responsibility to leave if they don't like what they are getting paid.

When it comes down to it, I honestly can't figure out how a waiter or waitress should be making silimiliar wages to someone in construction or other fields of work that involve an education or more labour. Jesus sometimes even workers at McDonalds are run off their feet at lunch times but they don't get tips.

Tips should be looked at as a performance bonus and nothing more. I get pretty decent salary bonus on top of a raise at the end of the year based on my performance and the company milestones. I can not always expect to get 100% of that bonus and neither should the service industry.

Not only that but I'd be curious to see what the % of tips the average server claims on income tax. I know I pay tax on %100 of my income.

I just don't understand why I have to subsidize their income? If I didn't think I was making enough, I would change careers.

Don't take me wrong, I tip and I tend to tip well based on performance. I just don't think that it should be expected and I don't think people should be put down for not tipping.

But the people at subway are getting paid minimum wage to make your sandwich and serve you, how is this different than a bartender?
