Renting equiptment from Tom Lee
Holy shit! What a joke.
So I go in looking to rent a mixer as my old one died a horrible death and I wanted to try a few out. Guy gives me the form to fill out.. no problem.. Wait.. Social Insurance number? Employment information? The guy behind the counter even says "Yeah, next I'll have to ask you for a blood sample" heh. Anyways, very hesistantly I fill it out, except the SIN, fuck that. Okay, the guy gives me the paperwork and says, okay, you'll be going up to the 2nd floor, the girl there will approve you. Approve me? I'm renting for fuck sakes! SO I get up there, this women PULLS my credit. WTF! Says, how much do you have available on your credit card. I'm like, $200 maybe? No, they need $1200 available on your credit card, and, my credit history didn't match their requirements! W. T. F. My history ain't that bad, and $1200 available? Keep in mind, I'm not buying this thing, just renting it for a week! I'm like, forget it. Phone up Long & Mcquade. Drive over, give them my name and address, give em my CC so they can keep it on file, fair enough, drop a $200 deposit, and I am the proud owner of a Allen & Heath xone 32 for a MONTH for the same price as Tom lee charged for a week. Seriously WHAT A JOKE! If you need to rent anything, go to Long & McQuade. |

The thing to do is get pre-approved on the credit card and whatever by Tom Lee a few days before renting anything. That's what they told me & that's what I did, then I went in & rented some stuff no problem, no deposit, and the price was reasonable. No L&M in my area or I would like to try try them too.
BTW what's the cost for a mixer for a month? |

No doubt.
Too many companies these days seem to feel that by patronizing their establishment you are now obligated to give them all sorts of personal information. ie phone #'s address ect. Seriously are they doing "you" the favor by selling you their product? I'm sick of fighting with the guy in the london drugs computer department over whether he can have my phone number and address because I'm buying something. Nuo 4 doesn't have any effects, just midi control. I'd say the eclers have way better sound quality than the 600 and probably about the same as the Heath.
EDIT: on a side note I was orginally going to buy the xone :32 or 62 but I really wanted the midi control :) Last edited by Leviathan; May 01, 06 at 03:45 PM. |

I hate A&Hs too - sound is good but i'd rather have a Rane. The construction of the knobs, the faders, and the layout is sorely lacking for what I want out of a mixer. From what I've heard, sound really isn't that much better than an Ecler (if at all)
I know a lot of people love a&hs but for the life of me, i still can't figure out why. |

yeah i just don't like the design of the a&h mixers, i don't think they consulted any DJs in the process. I had the xone 16 briefly, wtf is up with the gain knobs on the back of the mixer? hi & lo mid eq's (on the 32) are totally exraneous, and no fader curves makes them useless for any kind of hip hop techniques. i traded mine in on a rane empath which sounds just as good or better to my ear.

I mean, is there that perfect mixer though? Good sound, good build, all the knobs in the right places, decent fx (if any).. Lemme know because I'm pretty much done with this Allen and Heath and need to try something else. I think renting 3 or 4 to find which one works best for me is a good idea, no? |

^no doubt, buying something your not happy with will end up being alot more $$$ in the long run.
I'm one to talk though, I bought the nuo4 without testing it strictly because it was the only mixer I could afford that had the midi control I wanted. |

The Urei 1601E... played on one of these recently and found it quite nice, a fair bit cheaper than the empath also. Soundcraft are pretty much untouchable where studio consoles are concerned... so you'd have to think their DJ products would be of similar quality. http://www.soundcraft.com/product_sh...product_id=139 i didn't get to trying the fx or sampler, but it felt nice & had all the neccessary functions. |
